How to Minimize Opiate Withdrawal Symptoms with Vitamin SupplementsUsing Vitamins & Supplements to Offset Withdrawal from Opiate Addiction

How to Minimize Opiate Withdrawal Symptoms with Vitamin SupplementsUsing Vitamins & Supplements to Offset Withdrawal from Opiate Addiction | Drug Alcohol Treatment | Scoop.it

This used to be fun. Look at what I have become.

Getting hooked on pain medication is easy to do. Perhaps that is why there is an opiate addiction epidemic in America today. When Opiates are swallowed, snorted or injected a surge of Dopamine floods the brain.  Dopamine is the primary neurotransmitter involved in the reward pathways of the brain. As a result, drugs that increase dopamine signaling produce euphoric effects. Many abused drugs, including cocaine and opiates, inhibit the dopamine transporter (DAT), the protein responsible for removing dopamine from the neural synapse. When DAT activity is blocked, the synapse floods the brain with dopamine and now a person feels great-high. Hence addiction ensues in an effort to repeat the feeling.
