California's Assembly passed legislation Thursday that would forbid employers or prospective employers from demanding access to employees' p...

~ It's not hard to understand this. While employers love getting as much information on prospective and current employees as possible, you need to understand when a line is being crossed. As long as companies have had employees, we've known (or should have known) that people are often different in their personal lives than the image they portray on the job. This is why we talk about professional behavior. If you understand that, why is it so important to see the private posts and pictures someone puts on Facebook?

Federal Jobless Benefits To End Saturday Because Of California's ... | California HR | Scoop.it

Under federal law, the rate of unemployment must be 10 percent higher than for the previous three years for the extended benefits to remain in each state. California's unemployment rate is at 11 percent – the lowest it's been ...

~ Personally, I'm not unhappy that extended unemployment benefits are ending. I know of several companies that have been hiring over the past year and it seems that a lot of the unemployed people interviewed really didn't want a job. Yes, a very strange result of extended unemployment is that people have learned how to live on that lower income!

EEOC mandates new rules on background checks | California HR | Scoop.it

The EEOC's recent guidance concerning employers' use of criminal background checks on job applicants comes down to two words: Individual assessment.

~ Does your employment application ask about an applicant's criminal background? If so, or if you discover the information through a background check, you'll now need to give some serious thought as to whether or not that specific background rules out that candidate.

~ California often appears to be the most anti-business state based on all the laws that employers have to deal with but both the federal government and various states are steadily increasing the number of laws passed. Some states have even passed laws before California has considered or passed them. If we're not careful, CA could lose out as the state with the most employment laws!

Face it, even in Southern California we get acclimated to a certain temperature and when it goes high enough above that temperature, we have a problem with it. Regardless of what the temperature needs to be for any individual to become dehydrated or dizzy, companies need to be aware of the consequences and make plans to avoid AND treat it.
