Of the 20 major US brands surveyed by the Association of National Advertisers in March 2013, 65% said they planned to increase their investments in mobile—the highest percentage of marketers upping investments in any channel studied. Global revenues from mobile streamed music services are expected to rise by more than 40 per cent to $1.7 billion, according to a reporfrom Juniper Research. For the first time, these revenues will thereby overtake those generated by full-track downloads to mobile devices.

The report observed that growth in premium service adoption was increasingly being driven by operator partnerships with service providers. In Europe, several operators have seen an uplift in spend amongst the mobile users, notably TeliaSonera in Sweden, which bundles Spotify with TV, mobile and fixed line services. Furthermore, such services are also gaining traction in Germany, where O2 offers simfy and T‑Mobile has recently introduced Spotify.

Looks like Sony Xperia smartphones will get support for the DUALSHOCK 3 PlayStation 3 controller. Note the question mark at the end of the title – this isn’t yet official, but we tend to believe that will change soon.

The capability was spied in the upcoming Sony Xperia SP (C530X) settings menu (Settings > Xperia) from where we find the “DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller” menu option. It is said that in order to connect the controller to a smartphone, users will have to use an USB-OTG cable. Once this one-time step is done, the cable can be removed and the two will communicate via Bluetooth, automatically re-connecting on the click of the PlayStation button.

The audience for video viewing on mobile devices grew year-on-year by 162% to 48.1 million people in December across five main European markets, according to Comscore.

The research firm’s 2013 Europe Digital Future in Focus report also said that online video viewer growth on PC in the EU5 – Germany, UK, Italy, France and Spain – also grew by 5% to 158.9 million viewers.

YouTube has tripled its mobile advertising revenue in the last six months, and a key factor may have been the removal of the YouTube app from Apple’s iOS software.

The news comes from a Bloomberg interview with YouTube’s vice president of sales Lucas Watson who commented: “It’s a huge part of our business, and we know that’s where it’s headed.”

Sandvine, a provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, has revealed that audio and video streaming account for 28 per cent of roaming data as observed on a tier-1 European mobile network. Given the growing popularity of streamed sporting events such as the 2012 Olympics, Sandvine predicts World Cup 2014 in Brazil will be the most streamed event in history and, without necessary roaming plans or notifications in place, it may also lead to the most widespread case of bill shock to date.
