I wrote this 12 months ago. Since then, there has been much talk and some action in marketing to find ways of evolving marketing operations. My concern is that much of this is tinkering at the edges of marketing, mostly in response to technology shift, rather than creating whole change in operation, communication and most importantly, relationships with other internal stakeholder groups and audiences.

Brand strength is defining brand strategy based on the organisations own criteria for future direction, vision and ambition, then inviting the world to comment on that brand voice, listening to people and re shaping by degrees without losing integrity. Brands that do lose integrity, lose ownership of themselves, their strategic focus and their reason for being. In other words, they stop being brands.
