Regardless of the number of years New Zealand SME owners have been their own boss, the majority don’t have a clear strategy for exiting their business and little more than one third have established its value.
Margaret Russell's insight:

Not much change in the statistics here, even with a large number of baby boomers needing to exit their businesses in the next 5 years.

 

Only 39% of SME owners have an exit strategy in place, yet planning for an exit provides focus on making the business more successful and valuable. And the exit is often not at a time of the business owners choosing, but rather triggered by one of the D's -death, disablement, disease or divorce.
