Green marketing isn’t just a social good anymore, it has become a juggernaut of personal identity that has more and more companies desperately searching for ways to demonstrate deep green caring. The curious phenomenon of wrapping a company in the environmental movement has been tagged “greenwashing.”

The green marketing movement has taken an even more curious turn in the car industry. Take a look at all the hybrid cars on the road and you will notice a disproportionate number of them are Toyota Prius. Why is the Prius handily beating established brands like Honda, Ford and Nissan?

The Prius ad pegs the meter on environmental imagery. This Prius ad features weird music, dancing suns, frolicking fields of grass, and young children dressed as flowers. These ads are a little weird and that’s exactly what hybrid owners crave – to be different.

The new KFC logo retained Colonel Sanders’ trademark bow tie; but, his classic white double-breasted suit was replaced by a red apron. This red apron represents the brand’s home style cooking tradition. It tells customers that the KFC 50 years ago where Colonel Sanders worked hard in providing fresh, delicious, high-quality food is still present today’s modern world.

60 years ago, KFC’s Colonel Sanders, founded what is now known as: “the family dinner alternative” — that is to provide complete meals for family time when unwilling or unable to prepare home cooked food. He also called it: “Sunday dinner seven days a week.” Today, the spirit and heritage of the Colonel has become a symbol of the Kentucky brand. The image of Colonel Sanders as the Kentucky Fried Chicken logo has become one of the best and most recognizable brands in the world.

Case Study: “Intel Inside” campaign by Intel | MBA Knowledge Base | Business Management - Information and Case Studies | Scoop.it
Initially the motivation behind the branding of Intel Inside was to establish the company by name and identify the high performance products that were used

Abey Francis's curator insight, May 14, 2013 12:48 AM

The "Intel Inside" campaign has been one of the most successful branding campaigns in history, but it is too old, and growth in the PC market appears to be stagnating.

In 1991, Intel launched the successful co-op program in which they convinced manufacturers to place the "Intel inside" logo unit in their advertising and other marketing material. The name "Intel Inside" became the first trademark in the electrical component industry. This campaign focused the entire organization around the brand and created a highly effective advertising campaign. The Intel Inside campaign aimed to "educate both the retail sales associates and the consumers about the value of Intel microprocessors, and to explain to them the differences between the microprocessors" - without the technical jargon.

Many consumers were uncertain about the quality and reliability of microprocessors, and Intel found a way of taking away the mystery of the product, gaining the confidence of the end consumer that "Intel Inside" represented quality and reliability. At first this met with skepticism, outside the company and within it. But that didn't deter Intel. As well as advertising for itself, it had the bright idea of contributing directly to PC makers' campaigns-as long as they promoted Intel at the same time.

The advertising results were stunning. For example, late in 1991, Intel research indicated that only 24 percent of European PC buyers were familiar with the Intel Inside® logos. One year later that figure had grown to nearly 80 percent, and by 1995 it had soared to 94 percent and continues at these high levels today.
