13 Implications for Educational institutions at the primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels, are largely the products of technology infrastructure and social circumstances of the past.

The landscape has changed and educational institutions should consider how to adapt quickly in response. Some directions of change might include:

»Placing additional emphasis on developing skills such as critical thinking, insight, and analysis capabilities

»Integrating new-media literacy into education programs

»Including experiential learning that gives prominence to soft skills—such as the ability to collaborate, work in groups, read social cues, and respond adaptively

»Broadening the learning constituency beyond teens and young adults through to adulthood

»Integrating interdisciplinary training that allows students todevelop skills and knowledge in a range of subjects

There is a lot of value in this infographic!  The future of work will defined by knowledge transfer and skills development that are completely being reshaped.

To succeed as an entrepreneur, you will need to be able to grasp these concepts early and apply them to all facets of developing ideas, products and services and navigating a global landscape.

I see the opportunity.

Why Your PR Isn't Working (and How to Fix It)

Why Your PR Isn't Working (and How to Fix It) | Business - ideas, inspirations, thoughts | Scoop.it

Learn why most PR stinks, and how to fix it.

Hired a new executive? Write a press release. Painted a wall in your office? Duh -- press release, everyone is going to want to hear about that. Shipped a teeny tiny feature? To the press release we go!

Here’s the problem -- we've already established that reporters aren’t over the moon about inboxes chock-full of press releases, and the act of writing them isn’t particularly thrilling for any marketer. And yet, I think the heart of the problem has less to do with the age-old argument of whether press releases work or not, and more to do with the need for a seismic shift in how we think about media relations....

Seven steps to the perfect story is a great visual representation of how to build a story. This clearly explains the process of how students can construct their narrative and the types of characters they will use. I would definitely use this in my classroom to help students understand the process of creating a narrative.

Kenneth Mikkelsen's curator insight, July 9, 2014 5:43 AM

Leadership is a process of social influence: it is concerned with the traits, styles, and behaviours of individuals that causes others to follow them. Management is the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals. Or to put it really simply, we all need to be leaders and managers. We need to be able to influence others through our ideas, words, and actions. We also need to be able to get work done through others on a day-to-day basis.

6 Tips for Boosting Your Leadership Capacity

6 Tips for Boosting Your Leadership Capacity | Business - ideas, inspirations, thoughts | Scoop.it

Christel Binnie's insight:

Really identify with #5:

Develop the squeezed middle: Once a business grows and a middle management tier emerges, these are the people who can make or break growth. They are submerged by the instructions from above and the demands from below and unless their skills are developed, the culture is collaborative and the direction clear, they will drown. Identifying the skill and personal development needs of these individuals to help them become future leaders can catapult your capacity to a new level.

Business owners should always be striving to be better leaders to their business and its employees, and most owners have within them the capacity to be far better leaders, yet few tap into that capacity.

It may not be a conscious decision, but business owners tend to place many barriers in front of themselves, and these barriers act to limit their capacity to become great leaders.

This excellent article, suggests that business owners utilise only a portion of their capacity to lead others, and it offers six tips that if followed should boost anyone's leadership capacity.

We need a set of innovation metrics that measure how capable companies are, so we can separate reputation from capability and help companies focus on areas for improvement.

Ken Cooper's curator insight, April 21, 2014 11:48 AM

Shaughnessy notes that reputation is often the chief measurement of innovative companies. Outputs, like the number of new products or patents, are also easy to measure. He looks to inputs as a key indicator of innovation capability. That is, where the raw material for innovation efforts comes from, and how it is processed into the final product.

I like Shaughnessy's emphasis on inputs, because the practice of innovation depends on inputs as the primary sources of innovation opportunity.

Johan Burger's curator insight, September 7, 2014 12:50 AM

Measuring is crucial. If you do not measure, you cannot manage.

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, March 22, 2014 12:15 AM

I like this presentation as it seems more engaging, but it bears little relation to crafting stories in a business setting. I hear several problems over and over including:

* What we do is boring, no one will care.
* We don't have writers or storytellers on staff.
* We are too busy doing our jobs making widgets.
* No one does this in our space.

Excuses go on from there. Stories are how we learn best. Why then do we resist telling stories in a business setting. Do we really need to make things boring and uninteresting in order to make them "fit" in a business setting?

These "objections" are FALSE because:

* Everything is exciting when you explain it in story form.
* You may not have writers but you have storytellers. FIND THEM, grab a video camera or a phone with a video camera create a video diary.
* Your biggest job, no matter who you are, is to win hearts and minds, Stories, storytelling and online engagement is your job whether you realize it or not.
* No one is doing this in your space YET.
