Is cloud computing safer in Canada?

Is cloud computing safer in Canada? | Business Cloud Strategy News | Scoop.it

Because of the Patriot Act, the American government can go into any data stored in the U.S. and look into it (Is #cloud #computing safer in #Canada?"

Just because the Patriot Act protects the United States, and allows for review of data, does not mean a lack of safety. In fact it is the other way around. What makes a Canadian data-center safer thatn one in the United States?

Looking at security issues relative to the cloud is a mixed bag. On the one hand the U.S. economy is bolstered by being supportive of free enterprise and open markets. However, this is also makes systems vulnerable to attacks. On the other hand, to be able to provide a secure environment  for all to use, we ask the queston of what freedoms are we willing to comprimise in order to have greaer security.

Canadian companies are be prohibited by their government to move data centers off-shore and have legal data stored outside of Canada. So the question I ask is - would you rather thave the freedom to choose where you want to store your data and have your back-up and recovery set-up than to be told where you may or may not be able to, and be subject to the same issues?

The Patriot Act is in place for reasons of national security. For now , I would rather the United States government be able to protect me than having the security of a Canadian data-center that  could possibly be breached more easily than one here in the United Sates.

Therefore, I dont see the logic in saying that #cloud#computing safer in #Canada. I do see the logic in #cloud#computing safer in #United States.
