Bullying at the workplace: Statistics on bullying

Bullying at the workplace: Statistics on bullying - Human resources News on Violence in the Workplace

"...between 35 and 50 percent of workers have been bullied or otherwise abused in their workplaces at some point during their careers." Duffy told us.

"And for those of you in HR, you might be very interested to learn of the frequency statistics that were reported in a very recent study – 31 percent of human resources personnel had been bullied and over half of that bullied group believed it was because of their role in human resources and their associated responsibilities."

As if the personal implications weren’t enough, there is also a financial aspect to this situation.

"In the United States, the actual cost . . . $250 million annually in expenditures related to health care, litigation, staff turnover, and retraining from workplace bullying and mobbing." Duffy explained.

This figure may be low given a lot of these types of costs are not always attributed to bullying when in fact they could be.

It's time to take a close look at the quality of leadership in organizations!  Leadership is not a license to bully or condone it! The problem is that many of us don't know we are actually doing it!

Thomas Ammar's curator insight, March 16, 2016 2:24 AM
Mental Health of a worker is in my opinion the most unrecognized health issue in a workplace. Bullying at the Workplace is something we all know that goes on and is not something that is easily addressed. There are ramifications that can arise from both ends of a bullying situation. This is something that is very important to me, i hope to one day influence the workplace to eradicate bulling and impose a higher motivational chi to a workplace.

Problem getting worse, surveys show - Florida Today

Regardless of how many bullying statistics are published, one thing is clear — bullying is not going away. Public schools must be held responsible for providing targeted intervention programs that adequately address bullying tactics, safe reporting, awareness campaigns and stiff consequences and penalties for bullying.

Protect Your Kids from Bullying

Protect Your Kids from Bullying | Bullying | Scoop.it
Nearly one third of all students aged 12-18 are bullied at some point in their educational career, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

With so many students experiencing bullying, parents need to know how to protect and equip their children. Also on the rise in schools, sexual harassment is thought to have a greater negative impact on victims than bullying, making informed parents vital to their children’s protection against sexual harassment.

Why Victims May Not Report Abuse
Unfortunately, many victims of bullying do not report the abuse they undergo, because they fear it will only worsen if the bully finds out the victim told someone. Many victims might not report abuse, because they feel it is in some way their fault. Especially with sexual harassment abuse, students may feel deep shame over what has happened, and therefore will be unlikely to bring it up with a parent.
Since children may not tell parents if they are the victims of bullying or sexual harassment, it is crucial that parents are able to recognize the signs of bullying and sexual harassment.

Smartphones are like computers, but include more risks because of their convenience, advanced communications, and autonomy. Remember tracking and monitoring of devices needs to include computers, smartphones and tablets. Many spy phone software programs are very refined and offered by reasonably reputable companies; however sad to say the vast majority of offers come from unreliable marketers or other types of shady characters making false promises. Monitoring software is a general term for the various types of programs available to record computer or smartphone activity. There are many bad people out there making problems and some kind of anti-virus software program is mandatory on a broadband-enabled computers, laptops, and or smartphones. Name brand anti-virus software programs like Norton or McAfee are often included by mobile internet service providers and offered for free. Other people rely on free versions of products like Avast and AVG. One way or another the reality is an anti-virus software program is highly recommended to protect computers, notebooks, and smartphones. There are a few means employed by coders in developing spyware, used on cell phones also called spyphone software. Many people may use spy in their terminology when they refer to valid monitoring of cell phones. There are many different valid reasons to Track Cell Phone and communications content. Not only is Parental Monitoring allowable, and Employee Monitoring allowable, they are necessary. If not legally, then morally and ethically; for the reason that parents and employers are empowered to mitigate tragedy and liability that issue from cell phone misuse or the need for protection. Authority comes with accountability. The good news is there is something to keep in mind is that often spy phone software applications require permission. Some spy phone software programs can be sent to the phone remotely, but can't be installed or activated. Employee Monitoring responsibility goes beyond productivity and policy compliance; protecting against insider threats and other misuse is very important and Cyberbullying and sexual Harassment remain serious issues for companies. Employers, Parents and just about anyone rely on cell phone spy phone software programs to get a handle on data loss prevention, when in case their phones are lost or stolen.
