I like this article is because it proves that anyone can go threw an eating disorder and its just not a certain person or gender.

Nicholas Kyriakoudes's curator insight, November 13, 2014 7:33 PM

This article is about eating disorders with men and the effect they can have on their mental status. It stats that eating disorder don't just happen to women but they also happen to men, and they don't just effect their physical presence but also their mental being. The article goes on to sate what people should know about when men have eating disorders. It often sated that men hide their problems. I believe that this article is somewhat helpful in providing information about eating disorders effect on men. It more so describes the mental effects of eating disorders on men. I believe this article is a nice addition to my journal collection.

Wearing a faded T-shirt, dusty trousers and yellow Hard Yakka boots, it's unlikely anybody would ever pick Ryan as a recovered anorexic.
Xavier Rodrguez's insight:

this article depicts that eating disorders are more than a female thing or a lgbt thing, but something that has the potential to impact people from every race, sexuality, and gender across the world. this article elegantly uses evidence of statistics to show the wide range of both men and women struggling with eating disorders. this truly captures the main point that eating disorders are more than a gender problem, and in truth eating disorders are a global pandemic that can effect anyone.

Effective treatment for eating disorders exist for women and men. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and the Maudsley Method are options.
Xavier Rodrguez's insight:

this article beautifully and clearly depicts the resent rise of eating disorders in men and the possible reasoning for this. Furthermore  how trained professionals are not attuned to diagnose men or treat them for that matter, thus this brings up the feeling of shame in men because by nature strive to be strong and the feeling of helplessness causes them to be more consumed by their eating disorder.

Elizabeth Braden's curator insight, January 14, 2014 1:04 PM

This is going to be my primary focus for my research paper on Bulimia: Do woman have more eating disorders than men/do men and women differ? There are not many articles on men with bulimia, but there are cases of it. I think this is something we need to be aware of in society: eating disorders are not primarily focused on women, men can be affected by it too.

Jaimee's curator insight, February 27, 2014 9:08 AM

It confirms my idea as to men and women being on a equal spectrum when it comes to image. Men want to be the just as attractive in certain areas as women do.
