The Important Requirements Of Building Regulations Part M

The United Kingdom government has set building regulations in their country because they want to ensure that all the people who access buildings and dwellings are able to use all the facilities and equipment in an easy way. That is why they implemented this law whenever there are new dwellings or buildings to be constructed, it will always be designed to accommodate different kinds of individuals regardless of their needs, capabilities, gender or beliefs.

In fact, many buildings in UK established a new rapport between people with disabilities and people who live a normal life. This is to ensure the people who are special because of their disabilities can still interact and communicate with other individuals who are not suffering from any disabilities.

In fact, to show the government’s concern towards people with disabilities they pass an amendment and add to the existing building regulations the building regulations part M which addresses the welfare of special group of people to access and use all buildings without difficulty. This part has a specific requirements that would give value to people with disabilities and these requirements are as follows:

Access and Use

Precise provision should be planned so that people with impairment can safely access the building and use the existing facilities without the help of anyone. This is all about the design of the building’s parking area, entrance, routes, exits and stairs which should cater the needs of different kinds of people according to their capabilities. With regards to the stairs, there should be another way to use for those who are in wheelchair and a continuous handrail on each side of the slope. Hence, the structure of the building must be easy to comprehend to people with disabilities for them to move around the building easily and use the facilities with ease. In addition, people who have blurred sight should be able to use facilities easily by making sure that its colour contrast to the wall. For those who have hearing problem, building should always be ready with any hearing aid.

Convenience to the use of refreshment facilities

There should be appropriate area for people with disabilities without letting them feel that they are different from others. It is just a plain idea that sanitary accommodation will be provided so that it will be accessible to people with disabilities.

Thus, this part of the building regulations only implies that all the building facilities and equipment are required to be accessible to everyone regardless of their needs.

For more information about this part of the building regulations, Approved UK Building Regulations will give additional explanation about its requirements through their complete and up to date Building Regulations guide.
