The Only Guarantee

The Only Guarantee | Buddhism | Scoop.it
While purchasing a set of Klipsch S4A headphones, the salesperson inquired about purchasing an extended warranty, a two-year guaranteed replacement. Having worked for the Better Business Bureau som...
Unknown Buddhist's insight:

As a Buddhist, I also know the only guarantee allowed: our present moment of love; to have peace of mind and heart and to feel good about our own existence and to be love to all those around us. We … yes us … must live out of this present moment. Write a heart of love on everyone met and as Henry David Thoreau wrote, “… find your eternity in each moment.”

Perform Small Things with Great Acts of Love

Perform Small Things with Great Acts of Love | Buddhism | Scoop.it
Sitting in a small tea shop in northern Vermont, the late autumn rain drizzles across the window.  The warm fireplace buffers the cool air radiating across the small table.  For such a day, there a...

With a little bit of love, any one of us could do great things.

I is What I is: Ignorant

I is What I is: Ignorant | Buddhism | Scoop.it
What can Paula Deen learn from Edward Snowden, Tim Tebow and Chad Ochocinco? Frist circus’ are for clowns; and secondly, most adults hate the circus.  Bill Maher maintains that Deen shouldn’t have ...
Unknown Buddhist's insight:

s a Buddhist, I believe redemption is possible. But just because it’s possible, doesn’t mean you’ll get it. Redemption takes time – much more than an apology or “I is What I is.”   Instead, what Ms. Deen, as well as all of us, must continue to learn the deep lessons of racism clearly missed.  Read of Mandela’s journey; understand what Dr. Martin Luther King, Medgar Evers and many Civil Rights proponents across the globe are really about.

For those of us living in America, live past the racism of the South.

The Bridge Between "Us" and "Them"

The Bridge Between "Us" and "Them" | Buddhism | Scoop.it
I received a few negative comments from yesterday’s post “The Ignorance Within.”  Some question my commitment to pro-choice movement while others claim I did not hold the pro-life movement accounta...
Unknown Buddhist's insight:

Finding commonality demands conscious day-to-day decisions. Preventing our own ignorance and that of our legislative leaders requires tremendous effort and flows against the current of incredible pressure to do the opposite.

Religious Diversity is our Strength

Religious Diversity is our Strength | Buddhism | Scoop.it
When I do attend church, I am often invited to pray and willingly do.  But the blend between science and faith is blurred rather easily. For instance, a friend recently had cancer surgery. While gr...
Unknown Buddhist's insight:

Micromedical technology can help patients unheard in days gone by. Prayer can provide strength and presence of a living God. But you still need a skilled surgeon that can blend both.

Student Loan Debt | Buddhism | Scoop.it
Student debt in the U.S. totaled $900 billion as many college students sign large loans than they can’t. Many students miss or do not completely understand the fine print detailing compounding inte...
Unknown Buddhist's insight:

Allowing student loan interest rates to rise to combat sequestration would be tragic. Government and educational institutions need to reduce the cost of continuing education and raising education costs will not positively impact society

No Peace! No Justice!

No Peace! No Justice! | Buddhism | Scoop.it
Eight days past the George Zimmerman verdict, Americans continue to appear to help captive by coverage. The parents of Trayvon Martin joined thousands of Americans at more than 100 scheduled vigils...
Unknown Buddhist's insight:

rom President Obama’s perspective, he could have been Taryvon Martin. But Malala could have been my sister. Daniel Adkins could have been my brother. That pregnant woman in Sanford will be someone’s mother. The Sikh templein Oak Creek, Wisconsin is a religious sanctuary for many.

Racism is bigger than just Trayvon Martin. Racism is global. As living Buddhists and living Christians; as living Methodists, as living Atheists, we must stand for it all. Fragmentally parceling out peace rallies is neither peace, nor justice.

I'll Be Waiting

I'll Be Waiting | Buddhism | Scoop.it
“Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.” ~~David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas~~ -----------------------------------...
Unknown Buddhist's insight:

In truth, to condense such a wonderful man into a homily of words seems next to impossible. Yes I will remember Johnny. I will remember his life, and want to see him again, again and again.

So Johnny, in the words of David Mitchell:

“I believe there is a another world waiting for us. A better world. And I’ll be waiting for you there”

The Ignorance Within

Unknown Buddhist's insight:

Is this day and age, there is more which connects us than separates us. Yet we focus solely upon that which divides us. Our humanity and love for another should trump our differences. I honor the men and women of the Catholic Church and the Respect Life Apostolate.

I liken this whole debate to moral insanity. I have seen the enemy: it’s the ignorance within.

Unknown Buddhist's insight:

For individuals and families using a State Health Insurance Exchange, will MIB information be used to set premiums? Will “rules” engines calculate premiums so high that it makes the premium impossible to pay? Hard to say, for one cannot find an easy answer at the moment.

Unknown Buddhist's insight:

The true message of BSA is nurturing a “Duty to God, Duty to Others and Duty to Self.” In truth, gay and lesbian friends are a big part of our life and culture. They are part of me, as I am part of them. God is in all of them, as He is in me.

Religious ignorance, intolerance and secularism require renouncement. That’s exactly what Christ did.
