Harmelin v Michigan (1991)

One of the cases involving the 8th amendment. Petitioner is charged with 672 grams of cocaine.  He "claims that his sentence is unconstitutionally cruel and unusual because it is "significantly disproportionate" to the crime he committe."

This video also explains the Amendment in a more detailed longer method. One of the factors is no cruel punishments. Meaning you may not punish a person in such a barbarious way. Excessive bail is also coverd, bigger crimes equals bigger bail money.
