A Hit in Germany, a ‘Rocky’ Musical Aims at Broadway | Broadway Theater | Scoop.it
A stage musical based on the 1976 movie “Rocky” has proved a hit in Hamburg, Germany. Now its producers hope to bring it to Broadway.

When New York producers were first pitched the idea of a "Rocky" musical, most couldn't believe it wasn't satire and wouldn't take the idea seriously. Sylvester Stallone himself recuited Stephen Flaherty as the composer. When some German executives from Stage Entertainment (leading European presenter of musicals) got word of the production, they began a transatlantic collaboration that proved to be a huge success. "Rocky das Musical" opened Nov. 18 in Hamburg. The reviews have been incredible and the show (a $20 million production) hopes to come to Broadway.

Shani Ostri's curator insight, December 2, 2016 12:04 PM

Katie Holmes Trapped on Broadway

Katie Holmes Trapped on Broadway | Broadway Theater | Scoop.it

"The latest Hollywood star to take the stage seems lost in her new play, 'Dead Accounts'"

TIME takes a critical look at Katie Holmes' performance in "Dead Accounts," and doubts anyone will remember her from the new Broadway show. They compare her popularity and stardom in the tabloids to a mediocre on-stage performance where she is overshadowed by her co-stars. Her mousy charachter and rail-thin frame don't add to her performance, but she's not the only Hollywood star struggling on Broadway. Jessica Chastain in "The Heiress" only succeeds at reminding the audience how much better Cherry Jones was in the role 10 years ago.
