Is Google taking over the classroom?

Is Google taking over the classroom? | Broadcast Engineering Curator | Scoop.it
These elite conversations around the ‘Future of Education’ are conducted almost entirely without input from teachers (and very rarely pupils and definitely not parents). Instead, techno-reform is something that is done to the profession. It is communicated to educators (and the public) through hype and marketing slogans – such as ‘personalized learning’ – that are designed to persuade and win support, not open up debates.

The shift from one group of businesses i.e. industrial factory owners and another i.e. digital is taking place. It is happening with limited, if any, input from teachers, parents, and students.

The FCC Will Be Open For Business - Radio Ink | Broadcast Engineering Curator | Scoop.it
Don't go launching your pirate radio station just yet. Even though the dysfunctional government in Washington cannot get its act together, the FCC will still be open. The FCC's Director of Media Relations Brian Hart said on Friday that if the government does shut down, "because of available funding, the Federal Communications Commission plans to remain open and pay staff at least through the close of business on Friday, January 26.”

Media&Multiculturalism_Fall 2017's curator insight, November 4, 2017 12:01 PM
While I agree with this article that video can be useful in classroom teaching, I don't think that technology should be as integrated into homework as this article suggests. By sending kids home with homework of making videos, the learning gap can become bigger between those who are privileged and those who are not. How long is it before technology gets so integrated into school work that kids are required to have things like iPads, computers, video cameras, etc.? Many kids going to school can afford paper and pencils and that's about it. Even if we suppose that the school creates a resource where kids can borrow cameras for assignments. That's all well and good but so many factors can still diminish that resource, like all the cameras being borrowed, so one student has to wait to do their project until a camera is finally returned by a fellow borrower. Also, we all see how fast technology changes, what happens when the tech in school that is open for borrowing by students ages out? The kids that can only afford to borrow are left with slower, out of date, and sub par technology compared to the kids who can afford to keep up with the changing times. I personally believe that assignments outside of school should stay old fashioned with paper and pencil, so that the playing field for all students is even that much more level.
