A recent analysis suggests that in the US children from 0 to 5 years, the IQ loss from exposure to lead, organophosphate, and methylmercury is about the same magnitude as from major childhood diseases such as preterm birth and ADHD.

 

It's a bit of a "science-y" read, but the implications are both clear and sobering.
