White Noise vs. Pink Noise

White Noise vs. Pink Noise | Studio Recording | Scoop.it

The terms “white noise” and “pink noise” refer to specific types of noise that are used for testing electronic equipment, and for other purposes as well. The color names stem from a comparison to white light, which contains all wavelengths of visible light from red (longest wavelength, lowest frequency) to violet (shortest wavelength, highest frequency). When all of the light wavelengths are in balance we see white light. If the redder wavelengths are in greater proportion to the others, the light shifts to the pink or red. As we will see below, this same idea applies to noise sources.

Music streaming boosts download revenues :: StrategyEye - Industry Intelligence

Music streaming boosts download revenues :: StrategyEye - Industry Intelligence | Studio Recording | Scoop.it

"I can tell you that we see Spotify [free] users more than twice as likely to be buying digital downloads compared to non-users, and that ratio has not changed since Q3 2011,” says NPD analyst Ross Crupnick. Spotify launched in the US in July 2011.

Lisa Gunderson's curator insight, January 17, 2014 2:55 PM

This article argues that streaming music through companies such as Spotify, will actually boosts sales in digital downloads. Record companies have not been too fond of the "access vs. ownership" argument, for they fear it will effect sales in a negative way.

music streaming actually helps download sales

Sarah Elizabeth Rounds's curator insight, November 5, 2015 7:39 PM

I found it very surprising that the article states that people who stream music are more likely to pay for a digital download.  I agree with the statement because after listening to a song or album, you decide that you really like it and want to have it to listen to it whenever.  I have actually done this plenty of times.  This way, Spotify is making money from the listener's stream and the artist will make money from the royalties from Spotify and from a listener buying the digital download or the physical copy.
