We live our "real" lives and the ones we tell ourselves in the form of story (reality re-defined...) - and the latter is often more "real" than cold, naked reality. Reality has no meaning, story does and attaches meaning.

Try to consciously follow your eyeball = how it seeks out different parts of the actor's face to attain "evidence" of an aready made emotional conclusion!
