Woman Who Reviewed 31,000 Books on Amazon Dies | Motherboard | Book Reviews | Scoop.it
Harriet Klausner claimed to read at least two books a day, but her controversial reviews cast doubt on how close her reading was (and who, exactly, paid for it).
LuAnn Braley's insight:

This is the first time I've heard the name (where have I been?) Harriet Klausner.    Which do you think is worse, writing (positive) reviews without having read the book or  writing good reviews for money?

Online petition calls for Amazon to ban Roosh V's 'rape' books

Online petition calls for Amazon to ban Roosh V's 'rape' books | Book Reviews | Scoop.it
Author and 'pick-up artist' Daryush Valizadeh, from Washington, known as Roosh V, flippantly described having sex with a woman who was too drunk to consent in his new book Bang Iceland.
LuAnn Braley's insight:

The fact that there is someone out there writing books like that makes me want to vomit.  It seems that this 'man' is, by his own admission, a rapist - a violator of women.  He compounds the disgusting factor by attempting to profit from his crimes by sharing their story with the world.

Please...if you are a woman, if you have a mother, sister, daughter, neice, cousin or aunt (who is a woman) do NOT buy these books, and urge your friends to do likewise.

OK.  Of my soapbox.

In their tweet, Change.org said, "This isn't about banning books, it's about ensuring he, and @Amazon, can't profit from rape."    What do you think?

Beloved books enhance character of kids’ rooms

Beloved books enhance character of kids’ rooms | Book Reviews | Scoop.it
Using children’s books as inspiration for bedrooms and playrooms is one way to introduce a child to literature. It can also be a fun, imaginative way to decorate. “I lifted the oranges, greens and yellows from the pages of The Wind in the Willows, Charlotte’s Web and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and used those colors in the fabrics, wall color” and furniture of a child’s room, says Sheilah Michaels, an interior designer in Crozet, Va., who designed a children’s room for a show house several years ago.
LuAnn Braley's insight:

We did Winnie-the-Pooh for our oldest child...but I love this idea.  By the time children are old enough to read, they will already be familiar with the characters of whatever children's books they will be reading!
