Amazon Makes Kindle Unlimited Official

Amazon Makes Kindle Unlimited Official | Book Publishing Industry News for LPG | Scoop.it
Kindle Unlimited, a new subscription service from Amazon allowing customers unfettered access to e-books and audiobooks, has officially launched. Amazon began testing the service, which has long been rumored, earlier this week.
Lois Wallentine's insight:

Educators will be looking at this because of the attractive price ($9.99 per month). Some big children's books are on the system--Harry Potter, Lois Lowry titles, Hunger Games--but it's not a robust list of best-sellers. Some audiobooks are included as well.

Book Publishing’s Big Gamble

Book Publishing’s Big Gamble | Book Publishing Industry News for LPG | Scoop.it
Consolidation among publishers carries costs you won’t find on a price sticker.
Lois Wallentine's insight:

Predicted: lower advances, less attention to authors, homogenization, tighter focus, loss of character in imprints. "Their temporary new logo — a giant penguin looking away from a house — is an awkward amalgam, a glyphic non sequitur. It’s a necessary visual compromise, a show of mutual respect for two distinctive histories. But maybe Random Penguin, as a few wags have suggested, would have been a more apt name."
