Bodybuilding.com - Can You Build Muscle On A Ketogenic Diet? | Bodybuilding and fitness | Scoop.it
I wanted to add 80 pounds to my deadlift … while following a ketogenic diet. Joe let out a big sigh. Staying on a ketogenic diet means eating so few carbohydrates that when your glycogen stores empty, your body cashes-in on ...
Daddyjo's insight:

The ketogenic diet is a recent star in the bodybuilding world. Basically it involves almost reducing your carbs to almost 20 grams a day (Thats basically 10% of what you should be eating everyday!), so that your body goes into an anabolic state. However, reducing glucose intake to such low levels can cause several drawbacks such as giddiness, irritability and fatigue. Therefore, if anyone wishes to try this out, please attempt to do it in a controlled situation. Do not attempt to drop your carbohydrate intake from 200grams per day to 20 grams instantly.

Daddyjo's insight:

Fad diets are just a bunch of bogus nonsense. They make you feel lethargic, tired and weak. At the end of the diet, you may have lost weight, but it is mostly water weight and the minute you go back to your old diet, you gain back everything you have 'lost' and are back to square one. I've done fad diets alot in my past and trust me, it doesn't work! #eatclean

FIve diets that have no research support and make little common sense but have had significant popularity.  Eat what you enjoy, but stay lean: avoid what you don't love and continually reasses what you can do without.

3 Compound Combination Moves for Total Body #Fitness | Bodybuilding and fitness | Scoop.it

"For those of you who lead a hectic lifestyle and don't think you have time to build a kick-ass body, think again. The simple solution to your dilemma is combination compound training. This style of strength training quickly builds muscle mass and dramatically enhances overall fitness while strengthening the body as a whole.Performing compound exercises will help you save time as well as increase your power and endurance. This is because compound movements hit numerous muscle groups as you perform multi-joint movements through a range of motion." http://bit.ly/15xD0eE

Daddyjo's insight:

Compound exercises are essential to the overall fitness of the body. Though isolation exercises may give u the definition that you yearn for, you can never achieve those definitions if your core is weak. #Compoundexercises target multiple muscles groups and activates your core. This basically means that you burn more calories doing one exercise than doing 3 different isolation exercises. #Goforcompound

Keep Going and Going and Going: How to Increase Your Endurance | Bodybuilding and fitness | Scoop.it
There's nothing worse than not having enough energy to complete a workout, so make sure you fuel correctly beforehand. Foods high in complex carbs are a great preworkout meal since they translate to sustained energy.
Daddyjo's insight:

Pre workouts are extremely important in bodybuilding. If you do not have the fuel u will never grow big. Its like trying to drive a car on an empty tank. People always think that one should not eat before a workout. The problem is because most people tend to think a meal should consist of huge portions. Daddyjo's insight:

This form of fasting is good for people who have busy schedules and have no time to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day. howver, one has to realize that intermittent fasting does not mean not eating at all and causing your body to starve. This can lead to go into a catabolic state, where your body eats away at your muslces to sustain the lack of nutrients coming in. #thatwillsuck

But, so do exercises like Squats and Lunges, which also hit other muscle groups. "The Calf Raise establishes a base level of strength," says Kovaks.
Daddyjo's insight:

This article gives a new insight of what calf exercises should be. The calf is an important muscles group as it is the first group of muscles activated when our feet touch the ground. And as such, isolating them may not be effective. The traditional method of training your calf is to do calf raises. However, in this article, it seems like it may not be as effective as many may think. New evidence suggests that calf raises are not enough and thus several new exercises for the calves are introduced in this article.

This is the basic that anyone who is serious in losing weight needs to know. Macronutrition is important as the three basic components of food ( Carbohydrates, Protein and Fat) need to be in proper balance for your body to see any real change. Though most poeple on a diet start by immediately cutting fat, that is not true. Our body needs fat to function. Instead of saturated fats, one could take poly or monounsaturated fats. These fats are healthier and help the body in increasing High density lipids(HDL), which is good for the overall cholesterol in the body. This video teaches you how to count your macros in a light and informal way.
