Metabolism and Weight Loss

Metabolism is a term often used in relation to weight loss. Learn why diet and exercise actually play greater roles in the success of a weight-loss plan.
Wendy Leong's insight:

“ Revving up metabolism will make weight loss much easier” is a common misconception people have nowadays. Ultimately, one’s weight loss depends on our body’s daily energy balance - Calorie output has to be more than Calorie Intake. Carbohydrates are broken into two categories: simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates offer less nutritional value, while complex carbs are part of a healthy diet.
Wendy Leong's insight:

We all know that carbohydrate is an essential nutrient to our body as it gives us the energy to work and play in our everyday lives. However, I realize that people often have the misconception that carbohydrates causes weight gain due to the fact that excess will be stored as fat in our body and avoid foods like rice, pasta etc. Therefore, it is important for people to know the difference between good and bad carbs. Good carbohydrates comes from white, brown rice, pasta, and basically our whole grains. Bad carbohydrates comes from our low nutrient dessert such as cookies and cakes that are high in sugars but low in fiber. Of course, we can still enjoy these sweet treats on several occasions, but always remember that the key to a healthy diet is moderation

Hydration Tips!

Hydration Tips! | Body Health and Fitness | Scoop.it
It's not as straightforward as you might think.
Wendy Leong's insight:

Water takes up an average of 75% of the human body and everyone knows that water is an essential to life. Women's Health Magazine dispels some of the myths of drinking water in this article. In fact, the amount of water a person should drink varies in different individuals. Similar to the article, I believe that people should cultivate the habit to hydrate regularly, even better when it is throughout the day, and not only drink when they feel thirsty. However, we should all be mindful that over-hydration (aka water intoxication) may occur when there is an imbalance of water and sodium in our blood.
