Over the years I have come to appreciate Garner's hypercycle - especially as technologies and terms become less fashionable. I am pretty certain 2014 will see a backlash to the term big data - just at the same time large scale data initiatives go into production in many enterprises and valuable deployment stories and application experience is shared..
