Stanford computer scientist Debashis Sahoo, PhD, scours the world’s public gene databases, and within a few seconds, analyzes the information he retrieved with the algorithm he has designed. His search came up with over a dozen new genes that were involved in the development of certain kinds of cells. That search, Stanford's Irving Weissman estimates, saved his team a decade of work and about $2.5 million.
