Big Bear Real Estate - Window of Opportunity for Sellers.

Tyler Wood from Coldwell Banker in Big Bear Lake, CA discusses the current real estate market conditions in Big Bear. Inventory for sale is on the downward spiral which is creating a window of opportunity for some sellers. With limited inventory, there are fewer quality options for buyers to choose from. And when they have fewer to choose from, it can make certain properties stand out even more and increase the odds of showings/selling. The price still needs to be in line, but with limited competition, selling a home in Big Bear right now could be a good choice.

Big Bear CA -Celebrity Sightings | Big Bear Real Estate The Tim Wood Group Real Estate Big Bear CA Search

Big Bear CA -Celebrity Sightings | Big Bear Real Estate The Tim Wood Group Real Estate Big Bear CA Search | Big Bear Real Estate | Scoop.it

I’ve never been a “star-chaser” and I don’t subscribe to any tabloids. But the other night I was dining with friends at the local Big Bear restaurant that used to be owned by character actor Andy Divine and the conversation turned to celebrity sightings. Specifically, Big Bear celebrity sightings.

My first celebrity sighting occurred just after I had just moved to Big Bear in the early ‘90’s. I was skiing by myself at Snow Summit and was waved up from the singles line to join a half full chair of other skiers. Everyone was pretty bundled up but I heard a distinctive voice coming from one of my fellow chair riders and looked up to see Emilio Estevez. We exchanged hello’s and I asked if he came to Big Bear often (original right?). He told me he was in town visiting his girlfriend and was taking a lesson with a ski instructor so he’d be able to keep up with her on the slopes. I didn’t have anything else to do so I started following Emilio and the instructor to the bottom of the run. Sure enough, I ended up at the base of chair two just in time to see Paula Abdul and Emilio Estevez holding hands. I learned later that Paula’s family owned a large home on Papoose Bay and the couple was seen in Big Bear quite often. Exciting stuff!

The Big Bear Market – Rentals and Real Estate | Big Bear Real Estate The Tim Wood Group Real Estate Big Bear CA Search

The Big Bear Market – Rentals and Real Estate | Big Bear Real Estate The Tim Wood Group Real Estate Big Bear CA Search | Big Bear Real Estate | Scoop.it

There are many factors to consider before you stick a “for rent” sign in your yard. Location and rent-ability are just as important as management and maintenance issues. Is the property better suited for vacation rental or are you looking for a full time tenant? Are you going to market and maintain the property yourself or will you need to hire a professional to help you? Here are a few key issues to think about before you get started.

Location

If your property is near the lake or next to the resorts it will be a better vacation rental property than something located in the east valley. Gilner Point, Eagle Point, Summit Estates, and Moonridge are all popular vacation rental areas. If your property is in Erwin Lake or Big Bear City you may want to advertise for a full time or seasonal tenant. Do your research and find out how well other rental properties are doing in your neighborhood before you make your decision. If your property is located within Big Bear Lake City limits you need to register it and have it inspected before it can be rented on a short-term (less than 30 days) basis.

Big Bear with Huell Howser | Big Bear Real Estate The Tim Wood Group Real Estate Big Bear CA Search

Big Bear with Huell Howser | Big Bear Real Estate The Tim Wood Group Real Estate Big Bear CA Search | Big Bear Real Estate | Scoop.it

When Huell Howser came to Big Bear a few years ago to film his “Road Trip” series, the whole town was buzzing with excitement. I never caught that first airing of the Big Bear episode so when I saw that it was going to be shown again last week, I had to watch. I have to admit I’ve always liked Huell’s homespun approach to travel journalism and I was truly impressed with what he did for our little burg.

The day started off with a trip to the Discovery Center for some general information and then he got into a jeep to take a trip up to the Butler Peak Lookout. If you’ve never been up there to see the view you’re going to have to put that on your bucket list. On a clear day you can see all the way to Catalina and the Mojave Desert. Truly amazing!

Next, Huell took a boat tour and canoe trip on Big Bear Lake and received a lake history lesson from Captain John Saunders, a local institution himself. From there he went up to Snow Summit and rode the Sky Chair to the top of the mountain to film the mountain bikes cruising down the hillside. You don’t have to be an expert rider to enjoy the trails that Big Bear is famous for. Many are beginner runs, just like the ski slopes, and the views from up there are breathtaking.

The Big Bear City Airport began as a dirt landing strip. Air service was through Los Angeles and Ontario airports. The Big Bear Land and Water Company, of Big Bear City, kept the time tables in their office. Early aviation attempts had to overcome the challenges of wind, weather and altitude.

Mountain winds usually cross the valley from the west to the east and have reached speeds of over one hundred miles per hour. Big Bear City’s altitude begins at 6,725 feet. In the Summer, hot temperatures and thin air create difficult landing conditions.

Mountain Homes – Hummingbird Watching | Big Bear Real Estate The Tim Wood Group Real Estate Big Bear CA Search | Big Bear Real Estate | Scoop.it

Part of Big Bear’s outdoor charm is enjoying the local “wildlife”. You’ll find hummingbirds to be abundant across the San Bernardino Mountains. They love alpine trees and meadows and have been found at altitudes as high as 17,000 feet. Watching them is as easy as setting up a feeder.

Hummingbirds are one of nature’s smallest birds and have the highest metabolism. While hovering, hummingbirds can flap their wings from 12 to 90 times a second. This intense use of energy must be maintained with lots of small meals. They spend 10 to 15 percent of their time eating, consuming up to 12 times their body weight daily. Meals can consist of nectar, insects and even sweet tree sap.
