Clay Shirky on Creativity: “You Can’t Fake Interestingness” | Social Media Today

I surely don’t need to say anything other than NEW CLAY SHIRKY VIDEO!!

“In this video of his talk at PSFK CONFERENCE NYC, Clay Shirky talks about the work of Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. After working there as an assistant professor for almost ten years, Shirky describes five student projects that he thinks are pushing the creative boundaries – from interface design to how people cluster to build new work. At the end of the talk, the technology thought-leader compares creatives as members of a philharmonic orchestra and wonders if any rules can be drawn from looking at such an ensemble.”

Big Data Brings Big Changes

Big Data Brings Big Changes | Big Analyst | Scoop.it
The explosion of big data and the need for faster data are spurring a search for data scientists as well as data architects.
It’s no secret that rocket .. err … data scientists are in short supply.

The data architect side will be the more straightforward nut to crack. Understanding big data platforms (Hadoop, MongoDB, Riak) and emerging Advanced SQL offerings (Exadata, Netezza, Greenplum, Vertica, and a bunch of recent upstarts like Calpont) is a technical skill that can be taught with well-defined courses. The laws of supply and demand will solve this one – just as they did when the dot com bubble created demand for Java programmers back in 1999.
