Decade-long fight over electricity in south county comes to a head

Decade-long fight over electricity in south county comes to a head | BerginUniversity | Scoop.it
Five people who serve on an obscure commission will be asked this week to cast a rather monumental vote: They must decide whether a local water district can force out Pacific Gas and Electric Co. as the power provider for 38,000 homes and businesses in Manteca, Escalon and Ripon. The vote looms despite a $1.6 billion difference of opinion as to how much it would cost South San Joaquin Irrigation District to wrest away control from PG&E.

Make LAFCo Listen – Come to the Hearing Tomorrow!

Make LAFCo Listen – Come to the Hearing Tomorrow! | BerginUniversity | Scoop.it
Tomorrow at 9 a.m., the San Joaquin Local Agency Formation Commission, or LAFCo, will open a public hearing on SSJID’s proposal to become the electric service provider for the homes, schools and businesses in our District, replacing PG&E and lowering rates 15% below PG&E’s. The hearing is scheduled to last two or three days. SSJID’s lower rates will save the average family several hundred dollars a year, and collectively save the people in our District some $12 million a year. Naturally, PG&E opposes our application, and has used its deep corporate pockets to fight our application every step of the way.

SSJID looks to reduce rates by 15% come to meeting on December 10th read more

As the decision regarding who will deliver electricity to Manteca, Escalon and Ripon gets closer, there are two ways to show your support for the South San Joaquin Irrigation District’s effort to bring public power to your community. The first is to write a personal letter to LAFCo, the county commission who will vote on SSJID’s application in December, and tell them why you support SSJID. Nothing is more effective than a personal letter from a constituent! Now is the time LAFCo needs to hear directly from the people that this plan will affect.
