Mapping Acceptance of Same-Sex Marriage

Mapping Acceptance of Same-Sex Marriage | Bellaire GOPO | Scoop.it

CIVIL RIGHTS UNIT

There's uneven support for it across the country, but many clusters of agreement.

Same-sex marriage is one of the key issues during this election year. Though there is no general sentiment towards same-sex marriage, some polls show that people in the US are willing to accept it.There are only 6 states in the US that allow same sex marriage but one of the diagrams shows that most states have a positive sentiment on same-sex marriage.

I think that acceptance of same-sex marriage is a good thing for American society. The US was founded based on the principles freedom and equality so I see no reason for same-sex couples to be denied the right to marry. Based on the first diagram, it seems like same-sex marriage has the most support in the Northeast and on the Pacific coast. THere seems to be a lot of support for same-sex marriage and I hope that one day, same-sex marriage will be allowed in all states.

The Creepiness Factor: How Obama and Romney Are Getting to Know You

The Creepiness Factor: How Obama and Romney Are Getting to Know You | Bellaire GOPO | Scoop.it
The presidential campaigns have the technology to know more about voters than any other bids in history.

Since 2004, political parties have been using microtargetting in order to gain personal data on a potential voter. During this current election, both Obama and Romney have created websites that promote visitors to log in with their facebook accounts thus giving the candidates access to the voter's facebook information and their personal information. Most parties can predict the views of voters with great accuracy now.

I think that this microtargetting is an invasion of our personal privacy. I believe that this microtargetting should be considered illegal as parties are accessing our personal information such as our purchase records and private messages with no consent.
