It is becoming clear in the educational research literature that the most effective responses to challenging behaviour in schools are within a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework.

The move away from Zero Tollerance behaviour managment in schools is being led by the implemantation of 'School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports' (SWPBS) however there is also evidence that the 'Social and Emotional Learning' method has merit. Results indicate that a combination of both schools of thought have been successful.

Research both SEL and SWPBS to see if there are strategies that you already use in your classroom or school, then look for new strategies that might complement the one you already use.

 

Make a list of the changes you and your school would have to make to implement a SWPBS approach, keep in mind that it is a school wide practice and may take 2 to 4 years to implement.
