Let's Learn About Canada's Regions!

Hello Grade 5s!

Now that you've completed your map of Canada, outlining its 10 provinces, 3 territories, and bodies of water, we need to understand how and why Canada is further divided into 7 Regions.   First you need to understand what defines a region.  Let's take a peek at one of Canada's regions from our magnet puzzle.  Tell me all you can about this piece of the puzzle - what you see and what you already know.

A physical region can be defined as a mass of land, identified and connected by its physical characteristics such as climate, soil type, vegetations etc.). Canada has seven physical regions:

   - Western Cordilleras
   - Interior Plains
   - The Arctic Lowlands
   - Canadian Shield
   - Hudson Bay Lowlands
   - Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Lowlands
   - Appalachians

Below, you will notice that I have collected information on each physical region. We will be using these sites, videos, and presentations to learn about Canada's regions.

The different regions are ordered from West to East, beginning with the Western Cordilleras and ending with the Appalachians. Follow the numbered webpages to learn about each region. When you're finished, play the game to wrap up what you've learned!

Please remember our Digital guidelines while on a device:

-It's you and your device - work silently

-2 hands while walking with your device

-always work on a flat surface

-stay focused - no wandering off-task
