SEO Case Study

We began working with a new client who sells several niche high-end products on their e-commerce site, but we apply the same methodology to all clients we work with.  Local clients have different requirements, but this case study shows what kind of results can be achieved with some fundamental on-page SEO and quality link building.

The client knew they needed help with their organic search rankings because they were not ranking on page 1 for any relevant keywords.  Their site was converting visitors into customers with their PPC campaign, but they wanted to increase their sales from organic search results and not rely solely on PPC.  This client had worked with other SEO agencies in the past.  One got them in trouble with a Google algorithm update, and the next one, who they were with when they contacted us, used a clever linking scheme between participating websites.  However, they were concerned about the link network being detected by Google and getting penalized again, which was a valid concern.

The first item was to cut ties with the linking scheme.  Then we began building high Domain Authority links to their site because we knew a lot of links would be lost from the linking scheme and they needed to increase their Domain Authority.

In this graphic you can see the overall number of links dropped due to lost links from the link network, but the Domain Authority increased from 27 to 30 because of the new high Domain Authority links.

Next step was keyword research.  After a broad list was developed, we engaged the client in a collaborative effort to select the best keywords for their website and their business.  We always want to focus on products that sell the best and bring in the most revenue, and understand which products may become obsolete or discontinued so we don't focus on those.  Once the list was culled to a manageable size, we began mapping keywords to the correct pages.

After keyword mapping comes crafting Title Tags and Meta Descriptions for the pages.  Once they were reviewed and approved by the client, the tags and descriptions were implemented and that's when we saw some significant movement in keyword ranking.  I received a frantic call from the client concerned that the ranking of a certain keyword had fallen dramatically.  What they hadn't realized was that another page dramatically increased in rank for that same keyword.  Previously, pages were ranking for keywords that really weren't a good match for the page, so the keyword mapping exercise helped us straighten that out.  Here is a screen shot showing the increases in a few of the keywords we are tracking for this client.

Of course, there many more on-page elements that were optimized in addition to the Title Tags and Meta Descriptions, plus we did a lot of high quality link building, but the important thing to show you are the results.  Below is a chart from Google Analytics showing the increase in YOY Organic Search Traffic.

The chart shows and increase in Organic Search traffic of over 566%.  While an increase in traffic is great, the only thing my client really cared about was an increase in sales.  Below is a chart from Google Analytics.  Because this is an ecommerce site, we were able to measure revenue tied to various traffic sources.  You can see the revenue from organic search traffic was up over 63% and the number of transactions was up nearly 95%.  There is not a 1:1 correlation between the increase in traffic and sales because the price point is very high and the products are in a very narrow niche.  An average sale is nearly $2,000 so the coversion rate is not very high.  While we are implementing some ideas to generate more sales, the increase of over 63% is a great start.  And I should mention this is their slow season!

Conclusion:  Our client had worked with other SEO companies who used out-dated or “blackhat” methods which got them penalized or exposed them to future penalties with link networks.   This client trusted the recommendation of a reliable colleague to work with us.  We've delivered page 1 rankings for many of the most valuable keywords in this niche which not only resulted in increased sales, but revenue that impacts their bottom line

Schedule a chat with Jeff to discuss how we can help you get better results online.

Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality versus Reality/Reality

As I rambled around the Exhibitor Hall at Autodesk University 2016 I was almost knocked over several times as individuals with large goggles were wandering from their booth into the walkway. They were just not cognizant of their surroundings as they were in a virtual reality.

The concept of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) is becoming a big interest by many organizations as they attempt to enhance buyer experiences, improve ergonomics in design, and advance software usability and accessibility. I think this is all amazing and cool and certainly a good number of applications are going to take usability to the next level.

But most of the time we deal with the real world – reality reality. Finding a needed drawing or invoice, though it would be neat, probably does not happen any faster or easier if we add a 3D or augmented experience around it. (Though I know we are all looking forward to the days of hologram file cabinets, remember Minority Report.)

Surely, the efficiency and productivity of many of our everyday processes have improved through the application of technology over the years. And this will continue. But it's important to pay attention to how to take many of our commonplace workflows and make them easier, and faster, for those who have to execute them every day as part of their work.

Many organizations have moved from paper documents to digital documents (though we're still nowhere near being totally digital) facilitating more effective accomplishment of processes. The REALITY REALITY, however, means we are still dealing with paper documents, interoffice mail systems, and copiers. As much as it pains me, we still have to accommodate many older processes that are still in place. Boy would a 3D image of the file be cool, sure, but how realistic is this when companies still have rooms of paper file cabinets containing information that is needed and often critical. And the modern-day file room, the public share drives, are definitely reality.

So eQuorum continues to work on the mundane and some may say sublime task of making users ability to find, manage, and collaborate with digital files better, through the use of technology. Using HTML5 and Websocket technology puts ImageSite, our robust document management software, on the leading edge, but not on the bleeding edge. Virtual reality for document management software is a bit off in the future but we can take a cue from VR.

ImageSite incorporates the latest in searching algorithms and anticipates the reuse of files, searches, sets, downloads, etc. by keeping both recent and favorited activity and presenting options in a dashboard as well as in easy input search boxes. We know that identifying the correct file is as important as visualizing it. We provide popup file thumbnails when file names are hovered over, almost like augmented reality (but not quite).

Soon to be offered, eQuorum is in the process of developing heuristic algorithms for searching and collaboration. By using pattern recognition, historical auditing, and common action review ImageSite will be able to proactively suggest search criteria and even appropriate files. Good stuff, and it won't lead you to wandering in the hallways. It's okay to reach for the stars, but let's keep on feet on the ground and our eyes on our monitors.

Fire and Water Cleanup Water Damage Pros Carrollton

Water and Fire Restoration Professionalshttp://waterdamageproscarrollton.com(972) 362-5320When fire and water damage restoration is necessary, there are different means of approaching each cleanup and repair project, depending on the circumstances involved. Was the water relatively clean or was it contaminated with sewage, chemicals, or other toxins? How long was the water allowed to sit unattended, permeating walls, carpet, wood cabinetry, and furniture? With fire and water damage restoration, there are other issues to consider. When building materials are allowed to be continuously soaked in water for an extended period of time, they will have to be replaced rather than repaired or restored.Mold and mildew usually stem from water damages that were neglected and not cleaned out and repaired. Thus, water damage that is left unattended for over 48 hours is likely to develop mold as well as structural damage, requiring more involved repair work and driving up the cost of the fire and water damage restoration project. If flooding is caused by dirty water, which is water contaminated by pathogens, sewage or chemical waste, the items it comes in contact with must be professionally cleaned and sanitized or tossed altogether. Water, food and medicines that came in contact with dirty water must be discarded. If in doubt, consult a fire and water damage restoration professional, especially if items have sentimental or significant financial value. When a fire and water damage restoration work is needed, calling a professionally certified restoration company for help is the safest and best action to take. These specialists are knowledgeable, trained and experienced in fire and water damage cleanup, repair and restoration efforts and have the equipment, tools and supplies necessary for the job. Moreover, they can detect and remove mold before it becomes a nightmare for property owners.Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/wdcarrolltonLike us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/waterdamageproscarrolltonFollow us on Google Plus: https://plus.google.com/105380140749527329861Call now for help (972) 362-5320

Virtual Reality Workflows

The concept of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) is becoming a big interest for many organizations as they attempt to enhance buyer experiences, improve ergonomics in design, and advance software usability and accessibility. This is all amazing and cool and will take usability to the next level for many applications.

However, most of the time we deal with the real world – reality reality. Finding a needed drawing or invoice, though it would be neat, probably does not happen any faster or easier if we add a 3D or augmented experience around it. (Though I know we are all looking forward to the days of hologram file cabinets - remember Minority Report.)

Old Processes Still in Place

Certainly, the efficiency and productivity of many of our everyday workflows have improved through the application of technology over the years, and this will continue. But it's important to pay attention to how to make many of our commonplace processes easier, and faster, especially for those who have to execute them every day as part of their work.

Many organizations have moved from paper documents to digital documents (though we're still nowhere near being totally digital), facilitating more effective accomplishment of workflows. The reality reality, however, means we are still dealing with paper documents, interoffice mail systems, and copiers. As much as it pains me, we still have to accommodate many older processes that are still in place. A 3D image of the file would be cool, sure, but how realistic is this when companies still have rooms of paper file cabinets containing information that is needed and often critical? And the modern-day file room, the public drive shares, are definitely reality.

Visualization Before VR

Virtual reality is mostly associated with creation of a visual environment that appears to be real but is not. Constructing alternative realities can aid users in completing many tasks that are difficult or even impossible in the “real” world. For workflows like design, simulation, quality assurance, and maintenance this may be helpful. But for many mundane, document-centric workflows VR is not only overkill but probably not even helpful.

For many processes, however, the insertion of visual objects, including lists, graphs, and clearly understandable icons, is extremely helpful in increasing productivity. Even dashboards containing favorite searches, files, and workflows, though simple, assist users in getting the day started or returning to projects they have recently left.

Providing visualization of existing documents, drawings, specifications, pictures, etc. in thumbnail fashion is also a good way to support users as they complete tasks, steps, or just respond to questions (almost like augmented reality but not quite).

Pattern Recognition as a Form of VR

Perhaps a simplistic form of VR is using basic pattern recognition. Or in this case the process of viewing similar steps or actions taken over time and providing them as options to workflow participants. Systems can proactively search using heuristic algorithms to find these patterns or previously used files. Prompting users visually with these suggestions can prevent users from having to remember how they, or others, completed workflows previously. The key is to provide useful options to users, not overwhelm them with the myriad of actions others may have executed.

Using VR in the Future

The days of goggles, holograms, and swiping at the air are coming and will make routine processes more interactive and easier to complete. But for the time being, for workflows that are document-centric, whether paper-based or digital, the use of virtual reality will be associated with simple visuals and history-based suggestions. It's OK to reach for the stars, but let's keep on feet on the ground and our eyes on our monitors.

DART Testimonial

"All an authorized user needs to access an engineering drawing is a standard Web browser. In a maintenance situation, quick access to an engineering drawing is critical. Plus ImageSite's speed in displaying even the most complex image is extremely fast. Since there is no client software to install or maintain, system expansion is simple to deploy. Also, almost everyone is familiar with a standard Web browser, so very little training is required to use ImageSite to access drawings."
