Liability Orders and CCJ's

Liability Orders and CCJ's | Bailiffs | Scoop.it
I am horrified to read this article:

http://www.credittoday.co.uk/article/18022/online-news/government-calls-for-views-to-improve-council-tax-debt-recovery-

In it, Barrie Minney, senior enforcement manager at Brighton & Hove City Council and chairman of the Local Authority Civil Enforcement Forum (LACEF) states the following:

Given his position, this is a crassly idiotic statement. Every liability order issued should be registered as a CCJ. Is this man for real?

Let's think
Consumer Man's insight:

Frightening suggestion that Liability Orders should attract a County Court Judgment (CCJ) by senior enforcement officer at Brighton and Hove Council and Chair of LACEF. This could have devastating consequences and only goes to reinforce the image that bailiffs really want to make debtors suffer.

Council tax: a chaotic way to impoverish the already poor

Council tax: a chaotic way to impoverish the already poor | Bailiffs | Scoop.it

willAmid mounting debt, court summons and poverty, a new report asks if the localised system of council tax support costs more than it will save

Consumer Man's insight:

There's always two views to an argument, but this one is definitely a side which affects many in the UK. Possibly as startling as the actual contents of the report to some will be the different approaches taken by the various councils across England and Wales. It is hard to argue that all citizens should not be treated equally!

Internet 'trolls'...what are the government plans?

Internet 'trolls'...what are the government plans? | Bailiffs | Scoop.it
Over the weekend all newspapers carried reports that the Ministry of Justice would be seeking to change the law about 'internet trolls' and increasing the prison sentence from 6 months to 2 years.

Below I have provided links to two documents from the Ministry of Justice. One is a news item that was released today and the second link is to the updated Impact Assessment (from July 2014) that was also released today.

One change is to amend Section 127 of the Communications Act
Consumer Man's insight:

It is long overdue that the issue of trolling was addressed. These people destroy lives and hide behind the anonymity provided by the internet. Thousands suffer prolonged torture and misery at the hands of these heartless, evil, despicable creatures.

A very welcome update to legislation indeed.
