Saudi 'justice' system is a rouge for mass-murders! = 2 per week/year

Saudi 'justice' system is a rouge for mass-murders! = 2 per week/year | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Certainly one shouldn't forget that ordinary Saudis without the right connections are also going to their deaths in this lethal lottery of a justice system. The latest figures show that this blood-soaked country is on average executing at least two people every single week.

In my experience what passes for a judicial system in Saudi Arabia has less to do with investigating crime and punishing criminals, and far more to do with maintaining control and compliance among both its own citizens and its community of ex-patriot workers.

Why should we care? Well, apart from the fact that thousands of British people go to work in this country every year and that Britain continues to maintain extremely cordial relations with the Saudi royals, this wretched system is simply an affront, not only to justice but to our common humanity.

Saudi Arabia beheads woman for 'spiritual healings'

Saudi Arabia beheads woman for 'spiritual healings' | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Human rights group describes execution as "truly appalling" and notes steep rise in country's use of capital punishment.  ....

A Saudi woman has been beheaded after being convicted of practising sorcery, which is banned in the conservative Gulf kingdom, the country's interior ministry said.

Amina bint Abdul Halim bin Salem Nasser was executed on Monday in the northern province of Jawf for "practising witchcraft and sorcery", the ministry said in a statement carried by SPA, Saudi Arabia's state news agency.

The ministry gave no further details of the charges for which the woman was convicted.

London-based newspaper al-Hayat quoted a member of the Saudi religious police as saying Nasser was in her 60s. The official claimed she had tricked people into giving her money, claiming that she could cure their illnesses.

According to the report, she apparently charged up to $800 a session.

Saudi Arabia: new wave of repression sweeps through kingdom - new report

Saudi Arabia: new wave of repression sweeps through kingdom - new report | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

The last nine months has seen a new wave of repression in Saudi Arabia as the authorities have cracked down on protesters and reformists, Amnesty International said today as it published a new report on the issue.

In Saudi Arabia: Repression in the Name of Security, the organisation says hundreds of people have been arrested for demonstrating, while the government has drafted an anti-terror law that would effectively criminalise dissent as a "terrorist crime” and further strip away rights from those accused of such offences.

Iran is not the monster it's made out to be – yet | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

....In Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, belief in the hidden hand of Iran behind the protests has led to both governments making a serious mistake. They have come to believe they are facing a revolutionary threat, when the Bahraini and Saudi Shia would be satisfied with a fair share of jobs, official positions and business. The Shia want to join the club, not blow it up. By refusing to see this, the Saudi and Bahraini monarchs destabilise their own states. ....

“Time for Regime Change in Bahrain”: London Seminar

“Time for Regime Change in Bahrain”: London Seminar | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “The UK Foreign Office together with other countries are not robust in the condemnation of the human rights abuses committed by the al Khalifa regime,” says veteran British peer Lord Avebury.

...

“We need more robust condemnation from them,” he told a seminar at the British parliament entitled 'Bahrain; Time to support regime change and end occupation.'

He suggested that the UK government could at least call for the release of the political leaders in Bahrain and for the 3000 workers to be re-instated and compensated for lost income.

“Ultimately the people of Bahrain want to change their political system and we have to support them, not just for reform but for real transformation,” the 83-year old peer said.

He referred to NATO intervening in Libya in support of regime change to maintain stability and asked “what was the difference with Bahrain?”

“We can ask for Saudi Arabia to withdraw its forces so that Bahrainis enjoy peace and freedom,” Avebury further suggested.

Al-Khalifas sell-out Bahrain in a final act of betrayal?!

Al-Khalifas sell-out Bahrain in a final act of betrayal?! | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

Intersected an information from different sources confirmed Chairman of the AL-AYAM newspaper Najib Al-hamar, who is the brother of Nabil Al-hamar the media adviser for the king, That the royal family of Bahrain (Al Khalifa) has decided to sell Bahrain and its people to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the declaration of "Union of two in a royal decree" is likely to be released soon. The move, if true, confirms the desire of the family of the ruling Al Khalifa to ensure control of the wealth looted, and fear of real change reduces their powers.

Observers had been spotted intense letters between the Royal family in bahrain and Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, and was a message to carry the Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa to the king of Saudi Arabia, In these letters agreed to form of Union, which would be practically an admission of Bahrain governance with Saudi Arabia.

Highlight of this, "Bahrain mirror" knows that the national events fell apart for the meetings away from the spotlight to discuss this serious step, which will serve as a final and full occupation to Bahrain.

And that raised questions in these hours for the international society attitude and the position of the United Nations to cause the State of Bahrain, which provides for the National Action Charter and the Constitution applicable to "Bahrain is an independent Arab state may not waive its sovereignty, an inch of its territory. Is a fully sovereign state recognized officially at the United Nations "

Continue of this form of Union to be announced vague, but observers assert that "any form of announcement of the Union is not legal because it did not take the permission of the Bahraini people, and being in the practical recognition of the full of Bahrain to the rule of Saudi-oriented holistic hostile to the people of Bahrain and the aspirations to freedom and democracy. Bahrain Opposition Fears Effects of Iran-West Tensions

Bahrain Opposition Fears Effects of Iran-West Tensions | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it
Opposition supporters in Bahrain have expressed concern that escalating tensions between Iran and the West may further stifle their calls for democratic reform in the Persian Gulf kingdom.

...

Al-Wefaq spokesman Matar says these tensions may provide an advantage for Bahraini authorities. "It is easy for the regime here to utilize this conflict and blame Iran for everything happening here in Bahrain and such tone can be accepted in the United States," he said.

Bahrain’s opposition has criticized America and its allies for what it sees as a failure to press the Bahraini government to end its deadly assault on civilian demonstrators.

...

"This is a domestic issue at the end of the day. Saudis are using, and the Bahraini regime are using this accusation of Iranian involvement to crack down on the protesters, but that’s a false narrative and it’s been quite comprehensively shown that there hasn’t been Iranian involvement," said Barnes-Dacey.

How Do You Prove Someone's a Witch in Saudi Arabia? .......Hearsay unto death! | Human Rights and the Will to be free | Scoop.it

So, how did Saudi authorities prove Nasser was a witch? The government hasn't gone into detail, but a look at the kingdom's past witchcraft cases suggests the bar for proving someone guilty isn't very high. Witch hunting is fairly institutionalized in Saudi Arabia, with the country's religious police running an Anti-Witchcraft Unit and a sorcery hotline to combat practices like astrology and fortune telling that are considered un-Islamic.
