RAF Tornado and Typhoon aircraft were particularly active over the past few days, bombing of three satellite dishes used by Libyan state television. "This strike was an attempt to disrupt the broadcast of Gaddafi's murderous rhetoric, which has repeatedly sought to incite violence against fellow Libyans," said the chief military spokesman at the Ministry of Defence, Major General Nick Pope.
But British defence officials said the Nato campaign was likely to be scaled down during Ramadan, which started on Monday. They suggested that targets in Tripoli in particular would be avoided.

Despite new diplomatic recognition, the opposition could face a long wait for financial relief.

One obstacle to releasing the money is that much of it was seized under legally binding sanctions imposed against the Gaddafi government by the U.N. Security Council. Unfreezing such accounts would require a consensus vote of the U.N. sanctions committee, according to one senior European diplomat, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Misrata - Libyan rebel forces on Sunday entered the oil town of Brega and fought street battles there with forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi, a rebel spokesperson said, in the biggest offensive in eastern Libya in weeks.

“The news coming from there is there is a street war going on between Gaddafi troops and the rebels, and 127 are wounded from our side,” Abdulrahman Busm, an official in the rebel National Transitional Council, said by telephone.

FAR TOO TIMID in its response to the Arab Spring, the Obama administration lately has shown welcome signs of greater assertiveness. This week the president and secretary of state finally declared Syria’s Bashar al-Assad an illegitimate ruler after the U.S. ambassador in Damascus made a high-profile visit to the besieged city of Hama. White House counterterrorism chief John Brennan traveled to Saudi Arabia last weekend to tell Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh that U.S. aid depends on his agreement to step down.

US should recognize the Transitional National Council as the rightful Government of Libya!
