Reminds me of 'The Creatathon', an event I participated in when I first landed in Seattle, 12 years ago.  $99 per team to enter- lasted 40 hours, create anything you want contest- winners for different categories, all attendees shared the digital creation assets. Most fun I ever had, in November, in an abandoned airplane hanger.  Audience was encouraged to mingle with and observe the creators while creating.  If this model were applied to current filmmaking, might just add a live contact element to the filmcreator/audience one beyond the story hack model.
