A section in this article called "selection and preparation of victims" tells us about how people were be selected for sacrifice. Usually the sacrifices were war prisoners but sometime they were kids or slaves. It tells us about how different people were sacrificed differently depending on who the sacrifice was for.

This site tells us about the Templo Mayor and its significance. it was the religious center for the Aztec capitol and hosted many sacrifices. The greatest instance of sacrifice at Templo Mayor was during its last reconsecration were thousands were sacrifices in four days.
