ShamWow (Full Length)

This guy is so awesome! If the shamwow didn't sell itself, this guy would do it! http://brianjarrett.com
Kathleen Moody's insight:

This commercial uses comparison-contrast to compare the ShamWow to a sponge and paper towels. It also uses many examples of how one could use a ShamWow (bathroom, rug spills etc.) The man uses definition to clarify the purpose and function by showing us what a ShamWow is and how it can be used.

"You know the Germans always make good stuff" is a hasy generalization about the German people. He doesn't really have any statistics to back up his argument. The generalization that "you're gonna spend $20 a month on paper towels anyway" is also something the man doesn't back up with facts.

Kathleen Moody's insight:

This ad uses an Ethos appeal with Katy Perry holding the bottle of Proactive.

The advertisment also has a cum hoc fallacy. It is saying that because Katy has clear skin and is holding the bottle of Proactive, Proactive is the reason Katy's skin is perfect. In reality Katy has lots of people working on her and her clear skin may be the result of anything, including photoshop.

Kathleen Moody's insight:

This adertisment uses an analogy, saying that putting contacts in is like putting fire in one's eye.

The "we know how you feel" caption is a pathos appeal. It is basically saying "we can sympathize with your constant irritation and pain".

There is a cum hoc fallacy in this ad saying that all contacts are the cause of firery feelings in one's eye, when in all actuality it could be allergies, the type of contact, etc.

AXE Apollo - Lifeguard TV Commercial (Full-Length)

Nothing beats an astronaut. Ever. Pick up your can of AXE Apollo in stores now! And visit http://www.axeapollo.com for your chance to go to space. Yes, real ...
Kathleen Moody's insight:

This commercial is an example of narration. The ad tells the story of a young lifeguard who saves a girl from a shark attack, but the girl leaves him for an astronaut.

It is also an example of an analogy, the astronaut representing the irresistable new apollo axe.

There is a pathos appeal in the suspense of the lifeguard saving the girl and dissapointment of his rejection.

Axe is using an either-or argument to say either a guy must use axe or a guy will not get any girls.
