Wow -- the title sounds like such a downer. And at first glance, it seems this article has nothing to do with storytelling.

Oh, but it does. For years I've been advocating that businesses craft their future story. This is about how you and your customers -- by being in a commercial relationship together -- are positively impacting the world. This could also be a personal story about what you as an individual are doing today to create a better world tomorrow.

I've noticed that many people have a hard time thinking this way. Yet your Future Story is a key driver in building loyalty and sales.

This article -- while never mentioning storytelling -- begins to show us how profound this Future Story can be, and how necessary it is today.

Philosophers in this article weigh in on what needs to be part of our Future Stories. Qualities like: temperance, mindfulness, considering upcoming generations, cooperation, and cradle-to-grave product/service attributes. These are all pieces of Patagonia's business stories. So examples of this kind of Future Story work is out there.

The best way to read this article is to do so through the question of, "What do I need to know about the Anthropocene Age and its dilemmas to craft my Future Story?"

The answers are there. Read the article and let your mind contemplate this as you go through your week. I'm fascinated to hear what you come up with.
