ElCap Report 10/19 to 10/25/2017 By Tom Evans Yo…Unprecedented solid weather seems to be the trademark of this Falls climbing season. It is too warm for some of the free climbing on ElCap, yet several teams are forging ahead. Most popular is, of course, Freerider which has been plagued by drop-ins, bailers and fixed-line jumpers.

This time of year the old Inspiration Point has fantastic sunset views. In an old parking lot and viewpoint from the old stagecoach road you can also take the old road down to Bridalveil Falls and be quite alone.
From another observer:
Old Inspiration Point is more remote and is located on the valley rim above the parking lot (accessible from Glacier Point road or continuing up from Inspiration Point).Tunnel view is a very nice lookout with amazing views of the park. It is often crowded but is worth it. There are a few hikes that branch off from the parking lot at tunnel view. I went to Inspiration Point. It is a short hike but very steep (2.6 miles round trip). My piece of advice is that you stop at New Inspiration Point rather than Old Inspiration Point. To find New Inspiration Point, you follow the path to the left when there is a slight fork in the pathway. You can see Half Dome and Yosemite Falls and the valley from the new point. You see the exact same view as you do from the parking lot, but the trail is hardly ventured, so you will be alone and able to get some good pictures. For Old Inspiration Point, you continue to the right when the path forks. This is not worth it because trees completely block any views of the valley.
