Sierra town hit hard by disaster, tripped up by another problem: Google Maps

Sierra town hit hard by disaster, tripped up by another problem: Google Maps | Authentic Yosemite | Scoop.it
Booms and busts are nothing new in Mariposa. But the historic Gold Rush town at the edge of Yosemite, where mining fortunes have vanished and tourism is now the mother lode, has had an especially bad run lately. Last year, the Detwiler Fire forced visitors to flee and merchants to close up shop during the busy summer season. In spring, flooding washed out a major highway into town. And for three weeks this summer, the Ferguson Fire did the unthinkable and shut down the area’s top draw, Yosemite National Park. Now, just as tourist dollars have started flowing again, yet another problem has surfaced: Google Maps.
Douglas Shaw's insight:

Well.....  They fixed it.

Hetch Hetchy Trail to Rancheria Falls - California | AllTrails | Authentic Yosemite | Scoop.it
Hetch Hetchy Trail to Rancheria Falls is a 11.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Long Barn, California that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October.
Douglas Shaw's insight:

Its cooling down, and this place is always beautiful.  The waterfalls are not falling until the January rains, but it is nice and quiet.  The autumn smells will begin to permeate the air....  Great for a many day trip here or on your way back to the Bay Area.

Los Angeles reduces Eastern Sierra water deliveries because of climate change. At risk, ranchers say, is a way of life - Los Angeles Times

For nearly a century, the lush plains east of Yosemite National Park have been made green thanks to annual flooding by Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. But those water deliveries are no longer guaranteed — and locals fear it could harm the region's culture of ranching.
