The biggest recognised marsupial that was a carnivore was the thylacine which supposedly became extinct in the late 1950's.It was native to parts of mainland Australia as well as Tasmania and possibly new guinea.By the time of white settlement in Tasmania the animal was already become rare and following intensive hunting and poisoning the animal supposedly vanished from the earth.But still the sightings continue.
