I really like this comic strip creator. Very user-friendly. Requires free registration to save, print and export strips. Free registration allows the creation of three comic strips per week.

Kamishibai, (kah-mee-she-bye) or “paper-theater,” is said to have started in Japan in the late 1920s, but it is part of a long tradition of picture storytelling, beginning as early as the 9 th or 10 th centuries when priests used illustrated scrolls combined with narration to convey Buddhist doctrine to lay audiences.

Wayang puppet performances are traditionally for adult audiences and tell a traditional story, but with changes made to fit with what is happening now.  As this is for Years 3-4 I though we could create a different puppet show with a topic which might interest this age group.

However......this is an experiment, and at this stage I have no idea how it works >_<

A blogpost from Edutopia´s Todd Finley. Deals with visual literacy as a 21st century skill that our students must be able to "demonstrate the ability to interpret, recognize, appreciate and understand information presented through visable actions, objects and symbols, natural or man-made". The article also provides a list of visual genres and strategies on how to teach visual thinking routines. The link even provides a lesson plan ready for classroom use! Yey!
