Australia cuts aid programs to Indonesia

The Australian Government will allocate 7% of it's aid budget this year to fund the detention of asylum seekers. The biggest cut is to emergency aid programs...
Juliet's insight:

$375 million is being cut from Australia's Aid programme, and is instead being spent on developing Australia's detention centre. The main cuts of this funding are;

Indonesia: these cuts affect school constructions, women's leadership aid, climate change aid, humanitarian and emergency services

Africa: the African programme which significantly grew under the prime ministership of Kevin Rudd, is losing $33.5 million.

Papua New Guinea and Nauru's aid had been left untouched because they hold the waiting Australian immigrants, before being moved to Australia's detention centre.

AusAid has grown tremendously over the past two years, having doubled from $2 billion to $4 billion. Both sides of government pledged to have it doubled again by 2015, but then this date was pushed back until 2016. These latest cuts have caused speculation as to whether they are just the beginning to an entirely new AusAid programme.

Binskin set to be next defence chief

Binskin set to be next defence chief | Australia's Global Links | Scoop.it
The government is set to announce new defence chiefs, with Air Marshal Mark Binskin expected to head the defence force.
Juliet's insight:

Mark Binskin is to become the new head of the Australian defence force. However, this is not the only change occurring in the force at the moment. Many other changes are to be announced this Friday, but ugly include the change of defence chiefs being appointed for three years. They will now be appointed for four years, allowing time for them to make significant changes. Also, by appointing new chiefs whilst extending the terms of others, the current situation of all chiefs being changed on the same day will end, as it cause turbulence in the force, having all departments having big changes on the same day.

Juliet's insight:

This campaign proves that Australia earns a lot of money from tourists, as the government was willing so spend money on creating the campaign 'There's nothing like Australia.' The video captures a vast array of places within Australia suitable for tourists.

Australia's Skilled Migration Program

Juliet's insight:

This video analyses the requirements needed to come over to live and work in Australia. You need to be sponsored by either a local or state government, family member or employer. You must pass skills testing , which includes language testing in English, and your skill must be one that cannot be found in Australia for the particular industry. Basically, you cannot just come over to Australia, without a skill to contribute, or a job waiting.
