5 Accessible Design Tips for Blended Courses -- Campus Technology

5 Accessible Design Tips for Blended Courses -- Campus Technology | K12, HE, NGOs, Non-Profits: TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION | Scoop.it
Revamping a course to be accessible to students with physical or learning disabilities can help make it more accessible to everybody else too.

Blended learning typically involves an element of student control over when, where and how learning takes place. But what happens if a student isn't very good with "self-direction, self-pacing and self-motivation"?

As Ibrahim Dahlstrom-Hakki, a senior academic researcher and associate professor at Landmark College in Vermont, expressed it, those are "critical areas of weakness" for students with learning disabilities — and they can be problems for mainstream students as well.

Solid advice for designer and teachers. Accessible Design (Universal Design?) is good for all learners, but essential for those with learning disabilities.

The Right & Wrong Way To Use Technology For Learning

The Right & Wrong Way To Use Technology For Learning | K12, HE, NGOs, Non-Profits: TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION | Scoop.it

"So much in learning is subjective, which makes sense because so much in life itself is also subjective, and we learn in order to live. So it’s natural.

Grey areas abound–the usefulness and quality of the Common Core Standards. The importance of curiosity in learning. The evaluation of technology in learning. The utility of letter grades. (And alternatives to letter grades.)"

What is the best way to use technology in your classroom? We know that students like to use technology but are they using it constructively? Are  you using technology constructively? This post explores these issues, not ing that there are some right and wrong answers in how technology should be used?

I believe that technology is a tool, a tool that can be used to reinforce, enhance and extend the curriculum; a tool that allows students to use critical thinking skills; to find answers to questions.

Check out the graphic that accompanies the discussion of this topic and consider how you will be using technology in your class.

6 Types of Blended Learning

6 Types of Blended Learning | K12, HE, NGOs, Non-Profits: TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION | Scoop.it

"Blended Learning is not so much an innovation as it is a natural by-product of the digital domain creeping into physical boundaries. As digital and social media become more and more prevalent in the life of learners, it was only a matter of time before learning became “blended” by necessity.

That said, there’s a bit more to Blended and “Hybrid” Learning than throwing in a little digital learning." Terry Heick

Patricia LeClaire's insight:

An understanding of how to effectively integrate technology into the K12 lesson plan, state curriculum and national standards is essential - as is an appropriate assessment design.

I enjoyed attending this symposium. The size was just right, about 800 with a wide variety of presentations and ideas.  This site provides you with a strong archive of those presentations.

I always ask myself what is one strong 'take away' from all this exposure to emerging tech.  Honestly, very little of what I learned was new, but I was struck by the prediction that Gesture Based computing would be a major part of the near future.

One more interesting technology to track!
