3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

9. This is a game in which you are the president. I learned a lot from this game in the aspects of the schedule of a president as well as approval and content. The president is led by his advisors on a tight schedule. He also has to make decisions in which he has to think about how he will be seen by the public. This all affects the need for the president to be prepared for each day and have his advisors to guide and help him thorughout each and every day.

The Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington DC.
3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

8. I chose the Fed. Janet Yellen is the chairperson of the Fed. The fed deals in all monetary policy and deals exclusively with the banks and FOMC. Th Fed is independent so it stays free from political pressures. A current article on their website is about the creation of a new $100 bill and the circulation of it.

C-SPAN Survey of Presidential Leadership - Abraham Lincoln - C-SPAN

3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

6. This is a chart full of ratings of presidents and rankings of them as well. I chose Abraham Lincoln as the president I analyzed. He is ranked the 1 president in both times and i feel as though he is the best president. This is because he reached almost 100% in crisis leadership, morals, and dealings with the times. These are very important pieces to being the best president of the country's history.

Who Is Running for President (and Who’s Not)? | 3 Perkins Brandon | Scoop.it
At least a dozen Republicans and a handful of Democrats have expressed an interest in running for their party’s 2016 presidential nomination.
3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

4. This is an informational graphic organizer put together by the New York Times. I found this page very interesing and informational. It showed the candidates thought to be running or not running in the upcoming presidential election. It was also interesting to see the direct quotes in which they said to back up there position on the chart. It was interesting to see that there was also a substantial amount of republican candidates compared to the democrats.

3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

2. This is a video of President Reagan speaking. He is addressing Gorbachev on the issue of the Berlin Wall and the freedom of his people. As you can see, this issue is very prominent as there are many people gathered and cheering and a very large stage setup. Here Reagan is actin as a Chief Diplomat as he is dealing with foreign affairs and voicing the opinion of our country to Mr. Gorbachev. We have views of freedom in America and that is what Reagan was stating in his iconic phrase "tear down this wall."

3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

10. This is a game on iCivivs about lawmaking. This is a very interesting illustration of how hard it is to pass a bill. Often you find yourself a near 1% of the approval you need and the bill has to be completely restructured again. Many amendments are added to bills just to keep everyone happy and try to reach that 2/3 vote and once that happenes there is no guarantee from the president. On one specific bill I went through multiple options and just could not get this bill to work in an way. That is present because of the many different views and possible logrolling in Congress. This is however good though as the people's views are being represented and the process is as it was Constitutionally written to be slow and cautious.

3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

8. This is a video about filibuster. A filibuster is a long speech(s) in the Senate on an issue. It comes congressman Albert Brown in regards to Abe Lincoln. There are two types of filibuster: silent filibuster and talking filibuster. A cloture motion is a block on a filibuster by 3/5 vote which will cease any talking about the issue. There can not be any breask taken or a cease in talking. Louisiana senator Louis Brown often talked about recipes in his non stop 15 hour speeches.

Election Other - Congressional Job Approval

Election Other - Congressional Job Approval | 3 Perkins Brandon | Scoop.it
RealClearPolitics Polls
3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

6. This is a polling site that gives the approval rating of Congress. Congress right now has an approval rating of 18.2. This is a rather low rating and can be accounted to the constant want for change and many different opinions of the people of this country. The incumbent is reelected at such a high rate partly because of their help with campaign funds but also to the fact that the people know what they have done and are capable of unlike the less known candidate. The rating is also for Congress as a whole not the idividual members which may have approval by their constituents. The framers put together a Congress like this because they are supposed to work for the best interest of the country not necessarily please the people.

Explore the billions of dollars special interest groups are spending on lobbying in Washington, D.C., -- and on what -- at OpenSecrets.org.
3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

2. This is a site showing the contributions of the American Humane Association. They are not a big contributor as seen by the graph on the site and the size of the group. Although, 2011 saw a huge increase and the highest contributions in a while. It was the first time since 2004 where any contributions at all were made. This could  be used to infer that the support of candidates is very selective for this group and they are more focused on their cause rather than supporting candidates.

5. This is a site for the interest group called the Sierra Club. The site is very relaxed and attempting to be warming as it is opened. From appearance, it seems they would have major campaign contributions in an attempt to promote any environmental friendly candidate. It also seems that lobbying would be a large part of the Sierra Club as well as litigation on issues concerning the environment. They are not a large interest group in comparison to the NRA or AARP but in comparison to others it is rather large.

Thomas Confirmation Hearings Had Ripple Effect

Today's Supreme Court confirmation process was shaped by what happened at the hearings for Clarence Thomas 20 years ago. The hearings also changed America's political, judicial and cultural landscape.
3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

4. Three characteristics of Clarence Thomas is that he allows states to establish official religion, supports no free speech rights for teenagers, and believes it unconstitutional to require campaign contributors to disclose their identity. These all influence his appointment although not directly. It is seen politically not in the election as there isnt one but in the views of the people. This means that the president and senate members will be judged by how they vote on this appointment. Interest groups influence appointments in ways such as lobbying in the senate and advertising possible candidates. Lobbying appeals directly to the people voting on the appointment (senate) and advertising will raise awareness to the people of the views and standards of the candidate creating possible constituent contact with senators.

President Obama’s told-you-so moment

President Obama’s told-you-so moment | 3 Perkins Brandon | Scoop.it
President Barack Obama didn’t leave much wiggle room — not for himself, and not for his critics. Getting a deal on Iran’s nuclear program is more than a win for 2015, or a legacy achievement for the fourth quarter of his presidency. It’s a validation of Obama’s whole foreign policy philosophy — a theory of the world...
3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

10. I chose an article about President Obama. This involves a slight overconfidence of the president which may result in a large mixup involving many other diplimats from various countries. The Iran Deal was presented with absence of the finalization and was given almost certain confidence by the president. This however may be premature and may result in the president having to use one of his three options presented. The problem with that is two are the same basic result and the other will not completely neutralize the situation.

3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

3. This is a shortened version of the state of the union address. Many different government officials such as members of congress and cabinet members are present at this address. 3 Perkins Brandon's insight:

1. This is an informational video about the American Presidency. The president has his own cabinets with executive departments headed by secretaries. Around 4 million people work for the president and is ruled by the rule of propinquity meaning the closer to power you are the more power you have. Presidents have executive privilege which gives them the power to hold meetings in private and keep secrets. It was overruled in Nixons case that this privilege is not absolute though. Most presidents popularity declines while in office. This video questions the true power of the president or if it is just seen that way.

7. This is a website contianing information about earmarks. An earmark is a federal aid to cities, companies, and communities. The money is used to fund things such as programs and reforms in subjects such as education or defense. Joe Loebsack used a substantial amount of earnmarks.
