Tobe Daily: The Raglan

thoughts for the merchant
The Raglan

May 19, 2014

Effortlessness and ease is the statement. TOBE has noticed the raglan sleeve tee thriving in the ultra-casualization of today’s lifestyle. Once only spotted in gym class, now the raglan is elevated to polished ease.

The consumer’s eye has adjusted to traditionally male silhouettes, making the raglan tee the perfect go-to basic. On the streets, women are pairing this uncomplicated essential back to elongated pencil skirts and heels (shown here) and on the other end of the spectrum, their favorite worn-in jeans and strappy sandals. Either way, the look is the perfect balance of nonchalant pulled togetherness.

For inspiration: Rag & Bone, 3.1 Phillip Lim, T by Alexander Wang and Organic by John Patrick. Consider this item in your go forward planning.

Shoulder Bag Lite

June 5, 2014

Carryalls, north-south totes, top handles, there are so many necessary-to-have handbag silhouettes, TOBE believes it’s time to round out the list with one more – Shoulder Bag Lite. TOBE predicts this mid-size bag will become a heavy hitter, for the simple fact that it gives a girl’s shoulders a break, not to mention it can still hold all of one’s must-carry essentials.

Leading the charge is the “Trunk” bag by Marni, Saint Laurent’s mini “Betty” (seen here) and the “Prismick” bag by Roger Vivier – all of which weigh in at just over a pound. What does this mean? Ladies everywhere will have perfect posture. Featherweights complement the consumer's need to carry all her goods, yet are designed with care so that the bag itself does not to add any excess mass.

Meagan Rubio's insight:

Meet her needs but keep it simple!

Normcore: The Biggest Anti-Trend

Normcore: The Biggest Anti-Trend | Fashion | Scoop.it
Since late spring a new trend has been emerging on fashion blogs and in
magazines- images of people in blah beige, simple khakis and sneakers.
Called "normcore", it's the new breed of hipsterdom- rather than wearing
ugly things ironically, normcore-ists wear regular clothes as if it was
high fashion: all of a sudden  fashion insiders are no longer concerned
with being chic or trendy- rather, they layer basics and neutrals like your
dad did in the '90s. It's the ultimate anti-fashion and if

Standard Issue

April 15, 2014

On a recent trip to London, TOBE editors visited Rag & Bone’s impressive new store in Sloane Square. Amidst the arrivals of Spring merchandise, TOBE also came across Standard Issue on the men’s floor, a small capsule collection of styles that are recut season after season.

Simply put, the collection features a tightly edited curation of men’s basics including basic tees in V and crew-neck styles, raglan and Henley silhouettes and slim chinos. Color options are limited to keep with the theme including grey, black, white, navy and khaki.

What TOBE loves so much about this concept is the direct correlation to most male shopping patterns. Presented at the front of the men’s floor, this easily accessed group is just what every man wants out of a shopping trip, basic everyday wear and a no-hassle shopping experience.

Meagan Rubio's insight:

Although this is a menswear article, this relates back to newcore...being able to get those quality staples you love...and they are easy to find!

Tobe Daily: What's Your Uniform?

Tobe Daily: What's Your Uniform? | Fashion | Scoop.it

thoughts for the marketer
What's Your Uniform?

December 3, 2014

TOBE was recently inspired by an article where women shared stories about what it means to have a style uniform, and how it aids in reducing daily stress, while simultaneously growing their personal confidence and aesthetic. This simplified method got the TOBE team thinking about how retailers/brands could tap this recipe by catering to and supporting a slew of new uniforms that represent a variety of women and their lifestyles.

The core component to uniform dressing is that at least one part of the look remains consistent. Taking cues from the article, TOBE found that almost unanimously the women kept their bottoms the same and merely tweaked the top, jacket and accessories.

TOBE says, take the guesswork out of it and use social media as a platform to listen in and ask your shoppers to share their personal lifestyle uniforms. And represent a pool of them in an upcoming marketing campaign.

Meagan Rubio's insight:

Great idea to continue to use social media to talk to the customer. Ask her what she is wearing with our clothes...is she buying just our pants and buying her tops elsewhere for new fashion? Let's dig deeper...

Strong Suit

August 18, 2014

Although undeniably classic, the perfectly tailored suit has not been the hero piece it is for some time. Now, thanks to iconic Italian fashion house Max Mara, the power of the understated suit has been reset.

Enter The Tailored Suit Project - a collection of 25 items complementing the cornerstone of the collection: the jacket. A variety of luxurious fabrics are available to mix and match with four classic jacket silhouettes to create the most perfectly suited suit for each customer. Add expert Italian tailoring that flatters the female form and, voilà!

TOBE is pro-the classic, minimalist suit, recalling fondly the empowerment of the original Helmut Lang. And, what better way to finish the look than TOBE’s callout of the Anonymous Luxury handbag for Fall 2015 (to view the TOBE Accessories and Footwear 2015 presentation, contact us).

The death of denim? Blame 'athleisure'

The death of denim? Blame 'athleisure' | Fashion | Scoop.it
A growing trend in casual wear is all about comfort and denim is still struggling to find its place, and leaving some companies in a tough spot.
Meagan Rubio's insight:

Denim is downtrending in the market due to Athleisure but on the Spring 15 runways, it seemed to be making a "comeback".
