Tips to deal with sleep paralysis

Tips to deal with sleep paralysis | Astral Travel | Scoop.it

This article has some good tips for dealing with unwanted sleep paralysis. I find that the eye-blinking works really well, and the singing is good for raising energy levels and chasing the boogeymen away. Moving fingers and toes works sometimes, but won't work if your astral body has already separated from your physical one. (You'll just end up wiggling your astral fingers and toes, which is not helpful!)

In general, I find that the site leans a little too far to the side of everything-must-have-a-scientific-explanation-in-order-to-be-real and annoys me a little bit because of that, but does have some good practical tips on lucid dreaming. Needing a scientific explanation for everything is a (very common) limitation that can be dropped. Scientific explanations are fantastic for things that operate in the physical world in a repeatable way and have taken us a long way at creating things in physical reality. But once you move up to the next dimensional level (the astral level - dreaming etc.) there are other laws of reality at play that don't make sense with the physical laws we use here.  Trying to use physical-reality science to explain the astral is like trying to write your name on a grain of rice with a can of spray paint -- it's just the wrong tool for the job because it doesn't operate on the same scale.

Waking Life - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Waking Life - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | Astral Travel | Scoop.it

The people who wrote this moving know what they are talking about. It's an animated movie that has a unique style that some people will like and some people won't, but they describe the astral experience very well. The lightswitch thing is true!

The plot summary from Wikipedia: Waking Life is about an unnamed[2] young man in a persistent dream-like state that eventually progresses to lucidity. He initially observes and later participates in philosophical discussions of issues such as reality, free will, the relationship of the subject with others, and the meaning of life. Along the way the film touches on other topics including existentialism, situationist politics, posthumanity, the film theory of André Bazin, and lucid dreaming itself. By the end, the protagonist feels trapped by his perpetual dream, broken up only by unending false awakenings. His final conversation with a dream character reveals that reality may be only a single instant which the individual consciousness interprets falsely as time (and, thus, life) until a level of understanding is achieved that may allow the individual to break free from the illusion.

Inception - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Inception - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | Astral Travel | Scoop.it

This movie is just so much fun to watch. It's not exactly like astral travel, but seems to be inspired by it. It's kind of complicated and you may need to watch it twice to totally figure it out, but if you sit up and pay attention you might enjoy it. Do not watch this if you are tired or drunk.

The plot summary from Wikipedia: Dom Cobb and business partner Arthur perform corporate espionage by dreaming and infiltrating the subconscious of their targets to extract information, their latest being powerful businessman Saito (Ken Watanabe). Tiered dream within a dream strategies are used and dreamers awaken by a sudden kick, or dying in the dream. Each extractor carries a totem, a personalized small object whose behavior is only predictable to its owner. Cobb's totem is a spinning top that perpetually spins in the dream state. The extraction fails due to Mal (Marion Cotillard), Cobb's deceased wife, whose memory projection sabotages his missions. Saito reveals that he is in fact auditioning the team to perform the difficult act of inception: using dreams to implant an idea.
