After speaking with the president of one of the largest independent publishing companies in the world, who has 20+ years of experience in the field...
Benjamin Baumewerd's insight:

This article just confirms how backstabbing contracts can be. I can not believe that amazon tried to get labels to sign this contract and the article further nourished my distaste for legal fights and the climate of business and law in general. Amazon is a successful business already and I am truly astonished that they tried to pull off such a horrific contract.

Last week, Radiohead manager Brian Message called for government intervention to unseal secret, ‘NDA’ contracts between companies like Spotify and major labels like Universal...
Benjamin Baumewerd's insight:

This article discusses how important it is to stop 'Nondisclosure Agreements' and make the contracts available to the public. The best way to understand the current situation and to solve the problems is transparency. I largely agree with this statement and find the source to describe the situation accurately.

Here's Why Taylor Swift Pulled Her Music From Spotify

Here's Why Taylor Swift Pulled Her Music From Spotify | Assignment 2: Hot Topic | Scoop.it
The 1989 star is telling artists to say no to low-royalty streaming services
Benjamin Baumewerd's insight:

I am impressed with the steps Taylor Swift is taking and I appreciate them too. This Type of activism is important when looking at the industry's future. At the same time I don't know if the industry's future is imaginable without streaming websites. In my opinion album sales are something we cannot uphold and it will go down eventually, even though I wish it were not so. The industry has to adapt and maybe streaming sites could prove to be vital, though they might need some reformation.
