Michael Mazo's curator insight, December 15, 2014 2:40 PM

In many regions of Southeast Asia, people's way of making money comes from growing and collecting opium. Very popular in countries like myanmar and loas, this plant is turned into heroin which sells for more than other crops could ever come close to. Those successful in selling heroin end up with a large stack of money, but those that are exposed and caught by the officials lose everything including feeding their family. Many don't have other options because this is simply their only form of income. And with the number of heroin addicts increasing, the demand for the drug also increase in size and value.
