Rival countries have fought over territory in the South China Sea for centuries. Recently, increased activity has become more frequent in that area. Two island chains are the ones disputing over this territory: the Paracels and the Spratlys.

The tension between the Philippines and China attracts the attention of surrounding countries and there inhabitants. The disputes make it harder for trade to go smoothly/overseas voyages.

If the countries could come to a diplomatic fixation, then tensions would decrease. It's easier to make a friend out of an enemy.
