VERTIGO european project - Boost synergies between artists, creative people and technologists

VERTIGO european project - Boost synergies between artists, creative people and technologists | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Artistic practices are more and more broadly recognized as potential vectors of technological innovation. One of the main objectives of the STARTS initiative of the European Commission is to catalyze new synergies between all concerned stakeholders: artists, cultural institutions, R&D projects in information and communication technologies (ICT), companies, incubators and funds.

The VERTIGO project is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) supported by the H2020 Program of the European Commission. Its purpose is to support and coordinate these synergies at the European level through three main action lines:

  • A program of artistic residencies as part of ICT R&D projects
  • The organization of a yearly public event in Paris exhibiting the results of these collaborations.
  • The development of the web platform starts.eu

The project gathers a consortium of experienced partners in the fields of art-science collaborations, design, ICT research and innovation. It includes an international network of cultural institutions which will relay and disseminate the activities to their own networks.

EAH | European Acoustic Heritage project - discovering and enhancing the soundscapes of Europe

EAH | European Acoustic Heritage project - discovering and enhancing the soundscapes of Europe | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

The European Acoustic Heritage is aimed at discovering and enhancing the soundscapes of Europe, the different sounds that make up the imaginary world and personality of the places and environments as a part of the European common cultural heritage. Through this unity in diversity, the respect for cultural and linguistic diversity and the promotion of a common cultural heritage, as it is proposed by the European Cultural Agenda.

The project will provide bibliographical references about the audible aspects of the cities, recordings of the audible landscape from several places as well as documents that analyse the gathered material. It will also contribute to strengthen and disseminate the common heritage through actions addressed to the widest diffusion and visibility of the results all across Europe.

The production of all these contents will provide an opportunity to consider the sound as a living heritage, which must be preserved and enhanced because of its fragility. Furthermore it will show the importance of the sound of human spaces as a piece of the European culture, such as the sound of the squares, the parks, the human voices and the sound of children playing at the schoolyard, the sound of a street in a rainy day, the sound of an industry area or transport and more human activities.

The European Acoustic Heritage will help to generate experiences in different places throughout Europe that define audible identities and common spaces. Supported by the technology and the communication tools the organisers will disseminate the results reached by the project, as well as the work with other groups and associations.

A transnational project about urban media facades and their potential for our future cities

Aarhus – Berlin – Brussels – Helsinki – Istanbul – Linz – Liverpool – Marseille – Madrid – Montréal – Riga – Vienna – Zagreb

SET UP OF A EUROPEAN URBAN MEDIA NETWORK

The European Urban Media Network for Connecting Cities is a project initiated by Public Art Lab in co-operation with Ars Electronica GmbH Linz, BIS Body Process Arts Association Istanbul, FACT Liverpool, iMAL Brussels, m-cult Helsinki, Medialab Prado Madrid, Media Architecture Institute Wien, Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, Riga 2014, Videospread Marseille, in association with University of Aarhus, Marseille-Provence 2013 and MUTEK Montréal and funded by the European Union.

Our aim is to create a networked infrastructure of urban media facades to circulate artistic and socio-cultural content throughout the whole of Europe. Media facades and digital big screens provide new opportunities for communication in the public space. Through modern Information and communication technologies (ICT), they are membranes between the digital and the urban spaces. All over the world we can evidence an increase of urban screens, media facades and media technologies like mobile phones: 5,9 of 7 billion people have meanwhile access to the internet. What is the potential of urban media besides the commercial usage for advertisement? How can they catalyse communication and awareness of our environments and contribute to a lively society? How can we create an exchange between local scenes and neighbourhoods thus giving a voice to the public audience? Which impact will they have for our global communities? ...

The MediaAC master program answers the needs of the evolving fields related to the future and heritage of Media Arts Cultures. Our global digital world is filled with new media culture that encompasses the big questions of today such as the processes of globalisation, utopias of neuroscience, political repression, big data, and the growing world-wide surveillance. Thus, the analysis of media arts cultures is socially and culturally enlightening. The examination of evolving media art forms offers technological insights, which are vital to the next generation of software and hardware engineers, as well as to cultural practitioners. Media Arts have great potential for critical reflection and future innovation. They are especially vulnerable to decay as media evolution accelerates and require new methods of digital heritage preservation.

#ArtCall - EFFE - Label & Award for european festivals - Deadline 15 november 2014 - #festival | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

We at EFFE - Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe - know that festivals need visibility and exchanges. One way to guarantee this is to make sure everyone knows which festivals are doing the most exciting and innovative work. We also need to create a coalition between festivals that share similar ambitions to get their audiences thinking about the world they live in. Europe is a vibrant cultural space, and we want everyone to know it!

The European Festivals Association (EFA), an ever-expanding umbrella group for festivals in Europe and beyond, thought it was time to focus more single-mindedly on Europe’s diversity and creativity.

EFFE is a result of many years of intense collaboration with the European Commission and European Parliament. The EFFE Platform answers a project call launched by the European Commission and the European Parliament. Thanks to EFA’s past and present active engagement in Europe’s cultural policy development and thanks to its broad membership, the European Commission gave EFA the mandate to set up a new implementing organisation for this pilot project on the long term. It was launched in 2014 by the European Commission’s Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.

The first of EFFE’s initiatives is a quality label. This label is given to festivals with an artistic commitment, involvement in their local communities and a European and global outlook. National experts assess their country’s applications and see if they meet the three criteria. An international jury will also give awards to the most adventurous and exciting festivals. Labels and awards will be announced and a multimedia festival guide launched in autumn 2015 at a gala at one of Europe’s greatest festivals.
